Hey, when is the next race at GH? I want to race it! After checking out the track pics I am pretty sure I would do OK out there. Are there any actual technical sections of the track? Like doubles, triples.....all I can see is tabletops! I have been wanting to ride at Glen Helen since I started racing, and this race sounds like alot of fun! How many laps and how long is the track? Thanks!
Corry

Cool - do they allow quads to practice on the national track every Thursday?
Posted by: dj250r
iv been trying to go ride a track at glen helen for 3 weeks it was closed one week and totaly unmaintained the next.this track dose not care about the atv riders here, i only hope that so many riders come out to this event that it sends a message to the management there to have a atv track to ride and practice on
i hope Glen Helen can get it together for the quad riders in so cal

WP, that's awesome that you had the skill to hang with the pros...
Was Ellis riding his Cannondale or his YZ-powered machine???
Posted by: raptor720
David,
It would be great to have more kids out there to race. Recommended items for the ATV include nerfs, tether connected to rider, glass lights removed, standard race gas only and number places on the front and rear of the machine. Most of the kids that were there for the 1st race usually race with each other. I think that after El crashed, most of the kids got spooked. The next race is another story.

That was a copy of a Roll Design chassis with a KX85 motor. Our air cooled 90s smoke it but there is no substitute for suspension. Lori said she was going to fix that table top so that the landing on the one side was better. Seems that people were not squaring off the turn when they started their flight. I watched many people almost eat it there.
Lori also said that as soon as the SX series is over, she will make a 125 and down ATV friendly track for the kids. Way more than the Pee Wee track but less than the Vintage track. She was very happy with the turn out and thought that the ATV people were very very nice. To me, Glen Helen is the place. After all, most of the ATV industry is out here -- we should also have the races!
Bring the kid for round two!!!! Ask Mike Marion at AC if he has a set of nerfs. They are not required but it is a good idea. We need more fast kids. It is hard to grow without competition.
Next race have Josh, Smitty or Cory look me up.

Was just going to post a topic on this. You beat me to it. BR>
I want to know who's raceing and what your number is. Surely you know your numbers by now yes? Post it if you do so I know who to look for out there.
I called Glen Helen and you guys will be raceing on the Vintage track. Its the one directly behind the national track. Not a lot of jumps etc from my memory. Heck I think even I could race on that track, maybe. BR>
Please post your numbers if you know.
Posted by: wshrdskin
Geez WP. I hope your not the only one Raceing tomorrow. At least you'll win for sure that way. Since you're the only one that posted what your number is I'll be rooting for you. Good luck.

Nice turn out I thought. Good job Cory. (WP) 5th overall in your class. Man can those pros haul butt. Ellis and Eichner, Who's #53 on the Cannondale? #15 on I think it was a 250R?
As for the track, they changed it from what the motorcycles run when I was there last. I could not race the track but I could ride around it, slowly. BR>
I thought it was a good track. Lots of crashes during practice. Hope everyone is alright, especialy the girl who was taken out on a stretcher.
Might have some pics and videos of the pros and of you WP. Keep your fingers crossed that my brothers camera did its job. Will post them when I recieve them.
Pics are in. Video didn't work right. I believe these are of you WP. Let me know if they are not and I'll dig through the pics till I get it right. This was in the second moto.
Pics
Looking forward to round number 2.

Alaska,
Maybe you'll know. One was on a cannondale #53 the other was on a 2 stroke quad. #15. I don't know if they have the same numbers from race to race, so you may not be able to tell from the numbers.
Also, Eichner I believe it was, was rideing on a Z400 #5 during the races that WP was in.

I was up front for that crash in moto 1. We were sitting right in front of the announcers booth. He landed hard and got out of control and rolled it a couple times. The rear tire landed on his back and settled on his arm. The bike needed to be lifted off him. He looked bruised and battered, rode the bike off the track after the moto was over.
For the begginers and such classes the Raptors did well. They were no where to be found in the pros. I thought I saw one with different plastic. #20. Could be wrong.
Lots of Z's in all the classes but pros and they were doing well.
I thought my brother said he had a pic of the guy that ate it on the Z but he didn't send it to me.
WP were those pics I posted of you, you? Did I get it right? I ask because its easy to tell while there. The pics are a little hard to desifer who is who.
Posted by: wshrdskin
Yes I can. Give me a little time.
Here you go.

The first page, first 2 pics are what I have of you WP. The rest are of whoever that was running that day. Helmet cams would be a sweet thing to see for sure. See you for round #2.
SparkyClark,
On Nov 9th I'll be in the desert near the Salton sea enjoying one of our many rideing areas.

Sorry, no pics of the kids. We were right where the one kid crashed on his blue trinity quad. I still remember his face as he was rolling and the quad rolled right on top of him. It was dureing practice I think. He layed there for a long time before they resumed. He got up and walked to the ambulance by the way.
Just uploaded the pic of the guy that crashed on the Z400. Its on the last page, last picture.

Some of the begginers were a little better than you'd think for a begginer. But, it may have been one of their first times racing, doesn't mean they didn't know how to ride. I wouldn't mind entering a begginer race. I wouldn't be jumping the way most do but I could ride around the track and have fun.
I have an 11 year old son (for those that haven't seen my videos) that has an LT80, from what I saw he could win on that track with it. Whats the rules and regs for the quad and rider? Safety equipment etc. TIA
PS. He'd rather ride the Raptor but they and I won't let him race on that.
Posted by: wshrdskin
Thanks Raptor 720.
Would've liked to have met you. Maybe next time.
From the look on his face it was a bit scarry for him. It was scarry for me and he wasn't even my son. My 11 year old soon to be 12 rides hard and fast. He loves my Raptor and jumps better than me. He tears it up on that LT80. Its an 88 and beat up, I don't think it would be worth investing in nerfs for him to race it. Maybe if I came across a set cheap.
Do you know who was on the winning quad? It was a kawasaki I think. Fixed up. Extended axle/Aarms and shocks. Thats what all young peoples quads should be like. IMO
Posted by: wshrdskin
Very cool. I thought that jumps landing was off a bit to. Lots of people were having trouble with it. Thats good that they will make it better.
KX85, does it have gears? Cause it sounded like it was going to blow up coming down the hills. So did some of the LT80's, they must have removed a couple of the weights in the clutch. I only use 4 in my sons LT80. And it tops out pretty fast but, climbs better and he can pull wheeies with a tug on the bars. BR>
If I see cory or John I will ask them to introduce us next time. Thanks for the info and insight.
Later,
David

This is the weekend, finally. Round one of the three race ITP/White Brothers series is this Sunday. This is the first step to having a good series started in So Cal. If we show up and give a good attendance, there is an excellent chance that they will do another series and probably an even bigger one. See you there.

I am #78 on a yellow Z400.
Posted by: WP
I was so pissed. I was in second place ahead of Doug Eichner when my steering stabilizer failed. The track was so rough that I immediately got arm fatigue. Oh well, next time I will be sure to have a fresh one. Hope to see you out there again. How about Kory Ellis lapping the other pros?
Posted by: WP
I was using a Denton. They said today that they would take care of it for me. Ellis was on the Dale #53 with Eichner on the 250r in open pro. Eichner was sandbagging in the 400 intermediate on a Duncan Z along with another pro on a Dale. Nov 24 is the next race. Get your as$es out there. I saw a Z from Arizona that was pretty setup, but he ate sh!t in moto 1. Too bad he couldn't finish. He checks the forums but does not write. If you see this, how are you?
Posted by: WP
The first few I can tell they are me, but the others I can't. I know not all of them are me. Hopefully by the next race I will have new Houser long travel arms, LSR stem, Dyna ignition, and Fullbore plastics. And of course, a working stabilizer. Thanks for posting pics. Looks good. Get a helmet cam and I will wear it.
Posted by: WP
John, you are Raptor 720. Never knew. Your Kasea 90 is one fast as$ quad. Killer how your son crashes hard and comes back to win. There is a kid that won't be wearing a dress later on.
Posted by: WP
The track is not technical, but will beat your brains out. There are two really dangerous drop-offs that you have to watch out for, otherwise it is pretty smooth. We will be racing on the REM track. I practice on the national track on Thursdays and it has a lot more to offer. John, remind me to give you that $10 from Glamis.
Posted by: WP
Yeah, quads and dirtbikes. From 8:00 am til dusk. There is a group of us that try to meet every Thursday there to make it more fun.
