Direct Injection 2-stroke in outboards make fewer emissions that their 4-stroke counter parts. Plus they make way more power. Both Bombardier and Polaris have the rights to this technology.

The state of California tried to pass a law prohibiting the sell of new 2-stroke ATVs and Personal watercraft in the mid-90s. 1996 was going to be the last year that the Banshee and Blaster was going to be produced by Yamaha. But as you know this didn't happen.

Then the major manufactors thought the EPA was going to try and banned all 2-strokes including MX bikes. That is why Yamaha and Honda started working on 4-stroke technoligy.

I heard a rumor about a year ago that Yamaha and Honda was preparing to get away from 2-strokes all together in fear that the EPA will ban them also by 2008.

But what if the EPA doesn't ban 2-stroke race oriented bikes or quads. Then why shouldn't a manufacture step forward and produce a "race" oriented 2-stroke quad.

The reason is the 3-wheeler ban of the 80's. For some reason 2-wheeler MX is more popular then 3-wheeler MX of the past and quad MX of the present and they get more positive media coverage then their 3and4 wheeled counterpart.

Honda took the most hits and lawsuits in the 80's for the "dangerous" 3-wheeler, that is why the production of the 250R was discontinued.

My suggestion is to write to your congress and help stop any banning of any recreational vehicle. Since studies have shown that a brigs and straton lawn mower puts out just as much polution as a 2-stroke ATV and they are alot more popular.

Ride within your limits and ride the vehicle that matches your skill level. And leave the sueing to the idiots.

i too am aware of this, but i think there is a barrier to this technology. both in europe and asia many manufacturers use direct injection in their automoobiles. according to mags ive read, the gas we have here is usually too dirty and causes problems with the system. that is possibly why we havent seen it on this side of the pond.
