Don't count out the Blasters, remember, this is a MX course, lots of short runs, tight corners, places where a small, tight turning quad like the Blaster shines. The Banshee, while very fast, has a weak bottom end,it needs to rev, then you hit the powerband, makes it hard to ride into and out of tight corners, you will constantly be falling off the "peak",unless you slip the clutch like crazy and keep the revs up. You will need mods that concentrate on low and midrange rpm power output, while your friends with the Raptor and 400ex will be able to use his 4 stroke torque to pull them around the corner and stay in a higher gear, and keep their speed up. In the dunes and fire roads, the Banshee rules, but in tight trails and short runs, you have your work cut out for you!! good luck, let us know how it comes out.

you need to tell him about the banshees we encounter down here. not to flame anyones ride but the ex's and r's and cannondales will smoke most banshees on an mx track. the banshee is an awesome machine just not built for mx. you will have to put a lot of money in it to be competitive on a mx track. my advice is if your serious about racing go to some local tracks and watch the races and see for yourself what is running at the front of the pack. just my opinion

to be fast on MX w/ a shee you have to have alot of mods
Banshees have alot of wheel spin so you should probably go w/ holeshot mx tires

Did i here you say paddles?NO WAY!

A banshee is pretty fast in a strait line already. So you only be needing a set of pipes.Probably paul turner

CPI?No CPI pipes are more for drag racing.Thats why they are called tuck in drag pipes

If a desent rider is on a 400ex he will smoke a desent rider on a shee on an mx track, cause of suspension and handeling

I have a shee,But it does not compare to my r on a motocross track

The first thing you need to do is get a good set of shocks,A extended axle,And a set of extended arms

Banshees are not made for MX

PM me for any QEUSTIONS

Not too many banshees win where I race.Mostly Rs and them awesome MOTOs!

But there is one guy named bobby beach that used to be really fast on a shee

oh yeah and speeds (mxmike)

I beg your pardon?, You say that the 4-strokes have nothing on you....is this true?

What exactly as far as mods do you have?

I personally know of a raptor with a pipe and alcohol only, that is it, otherwise completely stock right down to the original brake pads. It will beat alot of piped banshees, and a few(not many) ported ones. So don't put your foot in your mouth just yet.

And like the others said, in MX speed is not everything, you can be fast as hell, but if you can't handle good you are toast.

Refer to a recent edition of ATV Action (I think, maybe a different one) where they tested a Z400 with engine mods, and compared to stock. They said at one point they were not any faster(maybe a little slower) because the quad wasn't set up suspension wise to handle the power...

Good luck, but do much research.

my dad got the kit it works great

Posted by: YFZRacer

its also been very reliable it has lasted a 24h race and 3or4 6h races

Posted by: YFZRacer

if your just getting pipes toomeys are good and i've also herd good things about cpi
if you got some porting done you could help the low and mid range to make it easier to stay in the powerband
reeds, boost bottle, reed spacers, airfilter, and a degree kit would also help
for tires the three most popular tires are holeshots terf tamers and razrs
suspension you should upgrade if you have the money but if not u should be ok but like mxboy said the ex do have better suspension then u
Good Luck l8r

what kit are you talking about - the banshee the one i was refering to or a kit for the blaster
if your talking blaster they do make a kit for it also
l8r

ya make sure you don't say too much raptors and other four stroks can be made to go fast in MX
but hey a banshee will work you just need to know how to use the 2-stoke power good luck with your racing l8r

THAN GO WITH SUSPENSIONS

hey imma race a banshee next year, anyone think these are good mx bikes? im just racing locally and my only competion is my friend on his stock raptor.. i know i can beat him easy cuz the raptor isnt exactly an mx machine but you wall think about the banshee for mx? what mods would be neccesary?

Posted by: Blaster2fast

ya im gonna be racing juss the local track some big air jumps in there some woops some tight corners... juss the basic local track.. is tehre anything that is a MUST? i know i am already gonna be the fastest bike cuz all there is, is a buncha blasters a few raptors and a 400ex... no competion in speed.. it will have pipes and aftermarket tires not shure which ones yet though.. i thought about trying paddles there but i wasnt shure on that, prolly turf tamers though?? but like are shox a neccesaty for a banshee racer? or exteneded bars? any ideas anyone??

Posted by: Blaster2fast

yea yea im not counting otu the blasters i used to race on one.. so i know how good they are.. ive also raced on the raptor and did not like that AT ALL.. there a GR8 trail machine but i would not race that.. to heavy, to tall, to narrow, and it wheelies like no other! but i figured the banshee would be a good thought, something new, something i could also use to outdrag my buddy and smoke him on the track. on my blaster i was in 4th 5th gear and never went out of it.. there are only like maybe 3 turns where i would actully have to slow down for but i always kept it reved with my cluth so i didnt loose much. i know the banshee has a funky power band but i figured i could tame it with the help if after market tires / boost bottle / and low end pipes (going for toomys i think) but for the most part i think i can handle it. AND THE 4-STROKERS GOT NOTHING ON ME!!!! lol

Yea, count out the blasters...believe me. Just work on your suspension man. And watch that 400....they'll eat ya up if ur not careful. They have good stock suspension and handle well. That Banshee will not handle too well around corners and over jumps, but you'll be able to make it up in the straights.

Oh man that is so cool, i have a 1998 blaster, do they still make the kit for it? I wonder what else works good

Posted by: peterlocal22

is the banshee any good at jumping or can it be any good at jumping is a better question?

Posted by: peterlocal22

hey I too have abanshee and was woundering how yours came out? Im also intersested in racing it in mx but wanted to talk to you first. How is yours at jumping, what kind of upgrades did you make to yours? Thanks

Posted by: peterlocal22

thanks for the reply. I was getting worried that banshees were bad at jumping even w/ better suspension. However after talking to you it sounds like you get some serious air time and that makes me feel better about the shee. Thanks

I'm running a decent set up on a 99 after all the figuring my guess is around 70hp but if you listen to what everyone is saying wheel spin kills!!!!!!!!! in the sand pit i am king but to race mx would be a work out, a 450r makes riding very easy and the way it grips out smooth is great "two of my good friends ride the 450r" but just for riding sand pits and dunes including trails, its a freakin blast! excitment is an understatement! suspension is the only thing i have left to do on mine but to be honest im jumping with them without a problem "just get used to hitting the bottom!" unless you dont get big air then its no problem have fun but gorget about bragging i dust the 450r but not to often on the line im spinning they are gripping then soon as i grip i blow by them . that is unless i feel like changing my clutch all the time but my ego would rather beat them in the end then work on my bike and miss another ride. hey have fun, practice, and you might do really good.......... good luck
P.S. cpi are really nice but i run the toomy and wouldnt trade em also try the vito's super stock pistons all the other mods reed spacers, upgraded reeds, porting, boost bottle, are cool they helped mine but shaving or upgradeing your head to a cool head with interchangable domes is worth it! cam 2 makes a nice boost as well. lonestar makes a great axel they replaced mine free after a big air or should we say a bit to big big air, the 450r bent its stock axel really bad mine was just tweaked a bit.

Like i said it takes practice allot of it is your take off if your not in the power band you can really screw up a nice jump and landing nose down can hurt, but figure out the revs and blip it just as your front end hits the top of the jump and you will get it. unlike the 450r you don't have as much contrll so you really need to get your take offs down before going big. the landings only get better with GREAT shocks but finding bottom isnt all that bad, just get used to the rebound and its all good.
