Hey Daren...waassuupp. I need to correct you on the 440....it's now a 465. It was a last minute decision. I got it finished up last Thursday and rode it on Saturday and the stock clutch kept me from finding out what it would do....slipped big time. This Benton drag strip sounds like a good time. Do they race every friday. What kind of tires you running? I rode your buddies Sparks Raptor last Sunday and was surprised by the power. I FINALLY got the Pol running good and probably picked up a good 8 bike lenghts from how it ran before. I'm sure your shee will still be smoking me. Anyway, maybe I can drag Steve and Brandon down to Benton to have some friday night fun.

Sorry about the rejection on the email Daren. I have a new email address that is jkatv400ex@sbcglobal.net
I've not seen you for awhile. E-mail me next time you are going to St. Joe. 20 or so guys and girls are loading up and heading to Lil Sahara this coming Thursday and will be back on Monday.
Steve is back to work and is putting in long hours. Steve's still waiting on parts for his 440. Brandon did some motor mods on his Banshee and claims it runs good...I've yet to seen it run. Steve is extending the swingarm on the Pol for me.
I would like to check out the Brummely drags sometime but don't have a schedule or phone# to find out when they race. How far is Benton from St. Louis? I tried to find Benton using Map Quest with no luck. Benton is not in Map Quest's data base.

CJM660...Daren is the guy I was tell you about having the Trinity Banshee. Believe me when I tell you Daren's Banshee rips.
Last I heard Donny was running 4.7's but his bro, Jim with Tyson porting and such was about a 1/10th of a second faster. Any way you look at it, a mid 4 sec quad is fast.
From my door in South City, it was a 12 hour drive covering 583.3 miles to Waynoka, OK. Karen and I went the same time last year (mothers day weekend). I going with Dale Bates and some of his friends...I only know a couple of them.
Brandon M I heard was having a chromoly Banshee frame built by Joe Ham. I've not talked to Brandon M. to much about it. I have not been to Big River to see any of those guys.

It seems there is always a hold up.
Any more thoughts on the new motor?
Its about time for another ride a St. Joes.
Let me know.

<< so the kit will be around $2500 not bad at all from power you get. I just want around 70HP. I doubt it would be too good for woods and stuff? Do you have aol? if so Im me at cjm660 thanx >>
I've see Daren ride his bike every were around St Joes. He jumps and runs with the best of them. His bike seem very dependable.

Hey Daren420
I talked to Chris at Pauls Cycles today. They said that there LT500 ran a 8 flat at Benton Friday. Sounds like we're going to have to tune up some. Let me know when your going again. I just about got my 500 jetted in.Now I just need to break it in some.
J Ross
Posted by: THEBOM
Chris said that they ran every where from 8.60s to the best 8.0s . He said it all depended on how well they got off the line.
Yes its is the white 500. I think they made some changes.
Let me know as soon as you know if you are going. I'll see if they are going too.

Hey guys & gals,
Just a few weeks ago, they re-opened the dragstip in Benton, MO and they are allowing quads to run. So far, they are not having any eliminations, just heads up, run for fun type racing. It is great for grudge racing your buddies. I will try to get the phone numbers and post here for anyone that may want to call them. They race on Friday evenings, I believe the track opens at 7 pm and gates open around 6 pm.
To run an ATV, all that is required is a helmet. I would recommend wearing a little more protection, but they leave that up to you.
So far the attendance has not been very good, atvs nor cars. I'm afraid if they don't see an increase in vehicles soon that they may decide not to run it.
The strip is located about 5 minutes off I-55 Exit # 80.

Hey Ugly,
I used to live near Bloomsdale so I am really familiar with Festus. I work for the railroad that runs trains through the middle of town there too.
I mainly ride at St. Joe. I ride a fast white and blue 98 Banshee with Paul Turner Pipes. We've probably seen each other out there and didn't realize it.
Anyways, I'm glad that someone has finally shown some interest in this type of racing. We need to get the word out so that we can get a good number of quads down there.

Hey UGLY,
I know some of the guys from the sand drags. Steve Kelly (400ex NOS), Brandon (blue Banshee), Jay Miller (440 ex), Brandon with the 250/310/330? powervalved R, Davey and his 3wheelers, Jason Waller, and some other guys. I just don't have contact with any of them except Steve and Jay. I have run at Big River on a few different occassions although I have no intentions of ever racing there again.
I got a phone number for the track in Benton. A friend told me that it is (573) 545-9366. I will check the flyer that is posted at the Honda/Yamaha Dealer in Cape Girardeau to make sure that number is correct. Let me know in advance if some guys are going to come down, so that I can try to get off work and make it down there.
JEFF THEBOM,
Hope that your motor gets here soon. I know how anxious you must be. It is time for another ride at St. Joe. I haven't been there in probably a month. I won't be picking on anyone at the strip. There may be some bikes show up that put me to shame. Nothing new to the Banshee. Probably won't do any more to it. But, the wheels are always turning. HEHE. My neighbor doesn't call me "Sneaky Pete" for nothing. LOL!
They are starting flat track racing at Blodgett this Friday. They supposedly have leased the go-cart/mini sprint track. I think it is a 1/5th mile oval. I can't decide if I want to pursue this or not. $4000 for the Roll Design/Custom Axis Suspension kit is a lot of greenbacks. I get my biggest enjoyment from riding at St Joe, so I'll probably leave the Banshee alone and buy me a 400ex to ride the trails.
Hope to see you all on the flats soon.

Ugly & TheBom
I went and double checked the information about the drags. The gates open at 6:30 pm, the track opens at 7 pm, and they run until midnight on Fridays. It costs $10 to race (no membership fees, just $10). Spectators cost $6 and children 11 and under are free. The phone number for the track is (573)545-9366 and for more info (573)888-3644.
So far there hasn't been more than 4 ATVs there and that counts me. Hopefully we can change that. And once again, they are NOT RUNNING ELIMINATIONS. No trophies, no money. You can run as much as you want against whoever you want. With a lot of bikes it could be quite fun.
I will probably be working this Friday, but I should be able to go sometime this month.

Hey Jay, it has been a while. Sounds like everything is going well.
I had intentions of going to St. Joe Sunday, but I didn't make it home from work in time. I was stuck in Memphis, TN all weekend. Bummer. As soon as I got home, I heard how fast your Polaris was. Jason (Raptor) was really impressed. I haven't even had the chance to ride his Raptor with the new jets.
I had already heard about the 465 with oversize valves, Carillo Rod, and alky?. I usually know what most people are up to. You get that clutch lined out and I bet it'll be a screamer! I love to see good running 400's. I'm a Honda guy at heart.
The track in Benton does run every Friday night. I would recommend that you call first since you will be hauling so far. Rain has been a pain in the butt lately. They don't have eliminations, just grudge racing. It is a lot of fun though.
The first night down there I ran my 400 ex knobbies. The track was a little damp and the tires spun terribly. I now have a set of 20x10x10 American Racers (mini sprint tires). They seem to work well, but I haven't figured out the right gears to run.
Hopefully I'll be off this Friday. I would really like it if we all could get together and play around down there. How is Steve? I haven't heard from him in quite some time. As a matter of fact, I tried to email you and received a reject message. I was surprised that it took this long for you to respond.
Anyways, hope we can all go racing soon.

Hey Jay,
Got your email address stored in my address book.
Benton is exit (or mile marker) 80 on I-55. Let's see, Festus is 175 so Benton would be about 95 miles from Festus. The track is about 3 maybe 4 minutes off of the interstate.
Glad to hear that Steve is back to work. I bet he isn't happy that he is still waiting on parts. At least he has the ol' Foreman. So what did Brandon do to his Banshee? Many people are getting into drag racing very seriously.
I don't know anything about the track at Brummely. I bet if you would get a hold of Roy Chasteen, he could tell you. What about Bradon with the 250/310 Powervalved R? He might know also.
My buddies and I are planning on going to Little Sahara for Memorial Day Weekend. Leaving the 24th and returning on the 27th. How long of a drive is it (time & miles)? Do I know any of the 20 that are going out there this weekend?
I would like to go to St Joe again soon. It seems like I have had to work every weekend. I will let you know when I will be going. Keep your fingers crossed that it will be this weekend.

Syko CJM,
I'm guessing that by your questions and what you have said previously, that you are getting serious about drag racing. I hope this information helps you.
Stage III 420 vs Stage IV 350.
I would say peak horsepower is probably very close. In a drag race, I imagine that it would come down to the better rider. As far as rideability and torque, the Stage 3 420 would be the winner.
Stage IV 420 vs Stage IV 350
The difference would probably be significant. Ask Jay about the Trinity Stage IV 420 on alcohol that runs at Bonne Terre Sand Drags. I think it belongs to a guy named Donny??? Anyways, that bike has been around since 97 with 4 different owners that I know of. I don't know why, but last time that I saw it, it didn't seem hardly any quicker than mine.
As far as reliability, it has been flawless. I have been running this engine since June of 2000 and haven't done anything to it except to put in new clutch plates. I can't stand having a slipping clutch.
Check out trinityracing.com and go to the porting page. It describes the different stages of porting. As far as 420 vs 350, you could call Harry and I'm sure that he would be happy to give you the low down. He might would even send you dyno charts.
Hopefully we can all get together at St Joe sometime soon. Maybe even this weekend.

If it were me, I would try to buy a newer model. It doesn't really matter just as long as the transmission shifts well. Last I knew the 420 kit was $1100. The porting prices are on their webpage, usually run around $400-$500 depending on what you want. Carbs and intakes around $600. Labor $250. Shipping cost me $64.52 from Trinity to here. So about $130 round trip UPS.
Mine is a 98 white/blue. I plan to sell it and build a different one. It is going to take some serious sweet talking to my pregnant wife, but I think she'll let me. Just glad I could help.
Daren

I'm sure that my bike is over 70 hp. My bill from Trinity was $2635. That was everything except shipping out there and I did not get their pipes. I already had a set of pipes.
Email me.

Yes, a mid-4 second quad is fast. My bike would run in the 4.6's if I had an extended swingarm and an override tranny. There are just some things that I will not do to my Banshee. I ride my Banshee.
I am seriously thinking about selling my Banshee and getting a 4 stroke. Probably a 400ex. I went to Land Between the Lakes and really enjoyed riding the trails. Maybe it is time for a change of pace.
And CJM660, if you want to be serious about going fast in a straight line, check out Crankenstein in the Dunes & Dune Machines section. That was awesome. Jeff, that is definitely what you need!

Hey Jeff,
Laddie was at Benton Friday. He told me that there were some quads running in the 8.4 second range. He would have told me had someone run in the 8.0 second bracket. I plan on going this Friday, if I'm off work. I never know until the last minute.
I'm going to make a gearing change, adjust the timing and get the tires ready. All I need is a wheelie bar to really get my times down. My 60' times on sand are 1.7 seconds and so far at Benton 2.1 seconds. All these guys better beat me now, because they might not get the chance next year. LOL.
Isn't that the white 500 that Faron and I smoked at Poplar Bluff?
I'll let you know about Friday.
Jay, are you game for this Friday?
Daren
Posted by: Daren420
If I don't have to work, I will be there. Not a very good answer, I know.
I found out some info today. I am going to try some changes and see how things work out.
What has changed on that 500? That is an impressive time. Are they running a wheely bar or anything like that? I guess that I will have to break down and make one for mine if I want it to run its potential.

This is good news.Seeing as I am building a racecar(86 camaro with a big block)And a fast 250r.When I get one them done.(The R will be first)I will surely go down there.I live right next to I-55.I mean I can walk there in less than a minute.I could probably find it fairly easily.
Thanks again
Posted by: ugly
I know quite a few people that run 300 ft sand drags at big river. So I will try and see if We could all go down there.
I think it would be pretty cool.

Davey eubanks is one of the guys I know.He just bought a sand dragging banshee frame and put his 540 motor in it.It is pretty nice.Real nice really.I will run down there when I get my R done.It is more setup for mx.But it will have plenty of balls for drag racing to.So I will run down there.
