Gaff said it all...
I would recommend boots, gloves , goggles and of course a helmet is required. After a few races and you decide to keep racing, then you can buy pants, jersey and a chest protector.

I know of hare scramble series in ohio, arkansas, mid-south and another around north carolina.
www.msws.org and arkansas championship hare scrambles. Don't know the others.
The kill switch is only in the GNCC I believe. As far as safety gear helmets are required and the rest is generally optional. But every series has a little different rules.
Just show up, join the ama, enter in what class you want and hold on.
Kinda open question so I don't know what to tell you.

Hey I was wondering how I can get started in racing harescramble type races. What do I need, I know safety gear, kill switch, etc. I am really interested in racing. So if anyone can fill me in on how to get started i would appreciate it.
