Im also having a problem with my timing chain, its rattling like crazy..it was fine the first couple rides after the weisco was put in but now it's rattling like crazy, iv tryed adjust it, still nothing..But, when i was putting it back together, i couldnt put the cam in w/o loosening the the tensioner/guide plastic thingy becuase it was so damn tight the chain, so i moved that to its, i think loosest position...so now i think i might have to rip the valve cover off and do it manually becuase nothing else it working...any suggestions greatly appreciated

Don't use that puller, it will destroy your mag. They sell the puller you need on ebay for about $15 bucks and it fits a bunch of bikes. Most of the 185s's that I work on that are having the problem you are end up needing the timing chain gear on the crank and a new set of guides. For some reason that crank gear gets worn out really bad. When you replace it you will need to put the gear in the oven and heat it up to about 250 or 300 degrees F and slip it on the crank while it is still hot.

How did the guides look when you tore it down Platinum. If the are worn to deeply you might not get it tight enough. The crankshaft DOES NOT have to be replaced if the gear is shot. It is pressed on and can be removed by heating it with a torch an sliding it off before the crank gets hot. If it gets hot it will make the gear even tighter and you will have to let it cool down and start over. I replaced mine when I was 15 by myself and I didn't even have a book on it.

I have a 185s that jumps time. I removed the top cover and cam assembly. There is a great deal of slack in the chain. It seems like the tensioner is at it's limit. I am now trying to get the mag off. I am using a standard pulley puller.(the type that has 2 anchor bolts and a center stud.) It doest seem to want to come off. I hate to destroy it.Is there anybody that has the ultimate plan for this little rascal? Sure can't afford to take it in for a chain job.
Thanks

Hopefully; I will be able to get by without having to do the lower gear. The dude at the honda shop said he would pull off the mag for a few bucks if I buy the gear from him. (I'm ok with that)
He also said that if the gear is bad I would have to replace the crank.Maybe, he just doesnt know.
Thanks for all the help. It was great.
