the stock bore size on this engine is 65mm....its not hard to hone, if you havent done it already, and you need advise, i can help you do it right. i have to run 92 octane gas...absolutly, at about 900ft elevation. mine also runs much better when i add some octane booster to the gas.....seems to run cleaner. youll probly need to do clutches in this engine/trans when you get it running right, itl have more torque than it did before, and will probly slip the clutches. most of the carbs that are attached to these engines have worn out needles, and are already running rich enough or even too rich for the change in compression, so id put it together and break it in....then get it warm and do a plug check...adjust from there.....

I have played around alot with octane alot with my 10 !/2 to 1 piston. (1200 ft, elevation) It will run just fine with reg. unleaded, but when I bump up to the 110 blue fuel I notice a huge difference in the crispness of the engine! An over-octane fuel is better on a under-octane! Under-octane fuel will cause some expencive repairs.

alright...im goin to rebuild my 85 200m trike..im planning on putting a 10:5:1 weisco into it...if i jus t put that mod in there..is there anything else i should do...i know i could upgrade exhaust and cams and stuff like that but, alone will it produce more power, also will i have to rejet the carb? thx in advance

thx alot man...yeah iv been on the hunt for an exhaust but that will come at a later date. also, will i have to abosolutly run 92 octane gas with high comp?

thanks alot for all the input man, great stuff..jus out of curiousity, what would happen if i ran it with 86 or 89 or whatever the low octance pump gas is?

awesome, thx for all your help!!ill update ya more when i get rollin over here

alright..everything looks good, ill be ordering the parts tonight probally so i have no clue when they'll come in, now, u say flatten up the main jet, what do u mean go richer or leaner.sorry dont know all the terms lol, also, i am wondering if i need any special tools to take the circlips off the piston??Thx again

yeah i wanna hone it myself, i sorta like doing things myself lol..my buddy said he used scotch brights and wd 40 to hone his dirt bike cylinder, what else around home could i use...if i have to i will take it to a shop but i was jus wondering if there is anything around the house i can use? also, my clutch was slipping even before i let it sit for awhile, but i never knew before that the oil type could make it slip, so im hoping thats why it did that before, now u say with the added torque it will probalyl slip, how do i account for the extra power, do i have to do something to that screw behind the cylinder or get new plates? thx for all the help
Posted by: PlatinumDogg
lol..i wasnt thinkin that screw is for the timing chain, im out of it today, but can u adjust the clutch w/o having to tear into the engine?

It will increase the power but you would notice alot more if you were doing it to bike with a pipe and high flow filter. The higher compression will increase engine temps a little so you may want to fatten up the main jet a little. hope this helps.

The only real way to tell is to get the information on it. You need to find out what the wear limit is for the stock bore. Any repair manual should have this info in it. Take the measurement on your cylinder and if it is within specs. it will be ok, if not, you will have to bore it. I wouldn't bore it unless i had to though because I really haven't ever had the first set of rings last to long on a fresh bore. The second set will last a long time. I run 93 octane in every bike i ride whether it is stock or modified. When I go to the dunes I run a 50/50 mix of 110 and 93 octane. It really makes for a crisp running bike. Also, I am not knocking wiesco's but I have had better luck with pro-X pistons. The pro-x and factory pistons seem to wear instead of the cylinder. Pro-X is just cheaper than original equipment. Wiesco's seem to wear the cylinder instead of the piston because they are such a hard forged piston.

That causes pre-ignition or detonation, which ever term you prefer. It pretty much does the same thing as if you ran the engine real lean. I know it's not like you are running a 12:1 pop up but they reccomend premium on stock compression so why take the chance. Hell, I wish all I had to buy was gas. The mixing oil I run in my two-strokes cost $7 bucks a bouttle.

Fatten up means to richen or increase the jet size. I use a curved pick for the circlips. I use snap-on picks but I think most wal-marts carry a stanley pick set and they will do just fine. Install one circlip in the hardest to get to side of the piston so that you can slide the wrist pin through and install the circlip on the easy side. Be sure to stuff some rags down in the motor so that if your circlip falls it won't go down in the crankcase.
