I agree the pilot jet is probably restricted. There is a very small hole which runs thru it, it must be clean, and if it wont clean up, get a new one, theyre about 5 bucks. Its usually the first passage in the carb to plug up, because its so tiny. Also check the needle end of the mixture screw, and if its deformed, youll need a new one. Sometimes the mixture screw gets turned in, too forcefully and its only brass and will deform easily, and this will make the idle hard to adjust and get smooth.

Won a "good clean carb of a runnin carb 3 wheeler" off of Ebay. Looked pretty clean on the outside so put on ran pretty bad. Took float bowl of and was filthy inside. I then tore it down and cleaned the carb in a soak then carb cleaner. Installed kit like I have many times before. Still runs rough but will run with the choke in the two open positions. When I close the choke it just quits runnin unless I hold the throttle open a crack but it is runnin bad. Any help please. I have tried a new plug also checked for vacuum leaks. It runs good with another carb on it that a friend has. The cleaned up good so I am at my wits end. And of course the ebay seller says they tore apart and cleaned so they don't know what is wrong. There is no way it was cleaned. But oh well the wonder of ebay. Thanks for any suggestions.

Do you mean the pilot screw.

Seems like the pilot jet not working properly or the air fuel mixture screw, Try getting a can of Gunk Carb Cleaner, follow the instructions and see if that helps. you can even try taking the carb off and spraying it down with the carb cleaner again.

The biggest thing on those carbs is to be sure everything is spottless. I usually use a piece of stiff wire and run through every hole in every jet. Don't get to crazy with it or you might bore the jet accidentaly. Compressed air is a big plus. I bought a 5 gal. bucket of carb cleaner from carquest for about $80 bucks but I clean alot of carbs so it kinda pays for itself. I tear the carb down, let it soak in that stuff overnight and the next morning everything is bling bling. Anytime a bike runs better with the choke on you know it is leaning out. Whether it is a vacum leak or clogged jets is up to you to find. One more thing, fuel filters are cheap insurance, always run one. I keep about 10 in my tool box at all times. Be sure you can hold the jets up to a light and see through every hole in them and you should be fine.

Clean the carb throughly and make sure the float is adjusted right.
