Dean Kirsten says he thinks they were made, and that they DID get out, just real limited. I agree with that theory 100%. When the consent decree was signed Honda sent notices to all their dealers and told them if the models they had in stock were sold to anyone, they would lose their franchise indefinetly and would be sued for an outrageous amount of money. So, the ones that got sold had to have happeend before this. That and the fact all the bad publicity surrounding them, I'm sure there wasn't a whole lot of people standing in line at the dealer for trikes...

well nobody has ever produced a real one or even a real picture of one so i say NO ,,, there are no 87's!!!

so do you have any pictures of your 500r?????? mine are on my photo page,,,,,,,,,

klm91@aol.com a real 87 250r? i need to see a frame decal up close!!! anyone can duplicate the color scheme...
just like this 1987 ATC 250R THANKS!!!

sorry,, i have been a member of several 3wheeler web sites for years ,we have hundreds of canadian members,,, i have been racin and riding 3wheelers since 1979,, there has never been a documented real 87 250r or 350x from anywhere ,, also never a real picture,,, just immitations,,,, so that is why i challenge every possible siting to produce a real picture,,,,

Posted by: KASEY

i have seen all the magizine picts of what they were going to look like,, and there might have been a test or two with a preproduction machine ,, the 87's were never released for distribution anywhere in the world,,,,

Posted by: KASEY

wow now that is an intresting concept,,, take the post ban trikes and replastic and serial number them and sell them as 87's everywhere there not banned ..... hmmmmm, well it didn't happen sorry,,,, even if they sold as few as 1000 all over the world you would think ONE would have surfaced in 17 years ,,,,

Posted by: KASEY

HMMMM,,, merely a comment, how much research have you done on 87's? there are 15 people that i know including me that have done years of research on the elusive 87's.... right down to emailing retired honda personel trying to get some concrete evidence,, we have translated japanese websites with atc's on them looking for information also,,, we have found part numbers for service manuals for atc's that never existed also,,, honda actually had on its website a part number for a 1986 ATC 500R SERVICE MANUAL .. even though they never existed ,,,, so you see why i challenge everyone that says they had one,or know where there is one ,,, i merely say GET a picture,,,,, chances are its not,,,,,,

Posted by: KASEY

yes you are right about the TRX200X,, have seen several pictures,,, as for the 250's and 350x's i can for sure say no on the 250's with the trx in production it would make no sense to try to adapt a front end on a 3wheeler,, i can't see a factory tearing down a 3wheeler to build a 4 wheeler out of it,, the motor serial numbers would not match up either,,,

Posted by: KASEY

yep ,, you are right on that one,,, several photo shoots of the 87 ,,, just no trikes,,,,

Posted by: KASEY

jake ,, of course there were a few out there,,, for photo shoots and promotions ,,, but they never made it to the general publics hands,,, as for big reds in 88, well i say they were rebadged 87 sold other places and i believe that could have happened,,,, utility trikes maybe sport trikes no,,,, and now you can buy a genuine honda id tag with any year you want to put on it,,,,

KLM91@AOL.COM SEND AWAY!!!!

My dad crashed his R pretty good in 86'. He replaced all of the plastics with genuine honda replacements.

I just replaced them again (albeit a few years later, eh?) And I noticed that it said 85', 86', 87' ATC250R on the plastics next to the part number.

Honda really did plan on producing an 87' R.

But didn't.

-My two cents

BTW - I cannot jet my bike for $hit since I added a rad valve... Its a pain in the a$$... Any suggestions?

the 87 ATC 250R (canada) was just same as the 86 250R except cosmetics

Posted by: 344PV

in know for sure in late 86 when all the ATC BS!! was going down 3 & 4 wheel action had an article on the ATC 87 250R being sold in canada and not the US.
find some old mags some pack rat has if you what to see the article and Pictures.

Posted by: 344PV

my 86 was made in 85 so most if not all 87's would say 86 on the frame wich were left over production that were not going to be sold in the US. but to tell you the truth i dont give a rats ass so i am done with this post.

Im not trying to jump on anyones side but KASEY knows what he is talking about on this one. Over at the 3-wheeler websites its been talked about at length with the same end result, No pics of a legit 87 250r or 350x.

has also heard that they were only sold in canada.......have not seen one though.

I know there are 87 200x and big reds but I have always heard rumors of 1987 250r being made .Has anyone ever seen one.?3 wheeler not trx 4 wheelers.

Posted by: deathman53

I remember someone saying that the tri-z's in england were converted to quads, maybe the 87r's were converted too as a differnt model somewhere else in the world, In mexico a trx200x was released, it looks just like a 87 atc20x converted, I seen some close up pics of them and it looks very obvious to a converted trike. But I think most of the 250r's and 350x's were cut up, lots of left over 85's and 86's were cutup. I checked parts listing for the trx200x and most of the part numbers are the same as the 86/87 200x, as that would explain the difficulty of finding new 86/87 200x parts. So, if the 87's existed they were most likely rebadged into quads.

About 6 months ago there was supposedly a 1987 ATC250R for sale down here in South Florida. Who knows maybe it was a fake or maybe it was brought down from Canada.......but I did see the ad.

Posted by: 1BAD250R

Whats with the smart-a$$ remark? This is a thread about a supposed '87 ATC250R. If you don't like whats posted don't reply.

Those are only aleged photos of the seat, there not concrete. The photos of the Big Reds are fairly convincing though. Problem with them is there all overseas somewhere. I know that the argument is just to prove that they exist not where they are though. It is unfortuante but i do belive that Honda killed there own soldiers when the lawsuits started.

lomax660@yahoo.com I would like one of those 2 if you dont mind....

I saw an ad in canada that was written in french. The 87 atc 250r was the same except it had white plastic!
