i had the dirtbike version of those things, and i learned to be real carefull of the oil flow to the head. notorious for gettting restrcited and flat out going bad. ended up with like two complete engines, but only the bottom ends were good.
anyway my point is, is the chain loose due to the cam loose in the head?
hope this helps

Here's my 2 cents. Friends have had two Honda's there the only one's that do this, it turned out to be gasoline problems. same octane but different brand
the only one that they could get them to run on is high test (Shell)? sound's bad but true. I will call him to be sure that it is Shell.
But he had every thing changed and checked before if was told about the gas problem.
anyway hope it works out for you.

I had a 185S and my cam chain jumped.
Ran real bad.
It threw off the valve timing from the ignition timing.
You're supposed to adjust the tensioner once in a while to take up the slack in the chain.
Worth a look I guess.

muddyashell i noticed that my cam chain was really loose when i put a different cam in that wheeler and it was really! loose so i tightened up my cam tensioner and tight as it would go and the cam chain was still really loose do u think i need to replace my cam chain?

I've got a 1983 -185s with the same problem. turned out it had a real weak spark. We tested and replaced most of the electrical system never got it figured out- sits outback to this day.
Good luck; Rob
