I don't know about 185 Big Reds, but our little 185S would scoot along at probably 45 mph. I wouldn't think that the Big Red could go much faster considering its a utility wheeler.

I had a 185s that must have been a defect from the factory. Believe it or not it did 55mph. I sold it and got another one a few years later and it did about 45mph. Maybe someone did some major motor work to it but it sure looked factory and ran quiet.

I built one last winter that was clocked at 64mph by the local sherriff's dept. That was with a 13 tooth sprocket, engine mods, custom built exhaust and 18x9.5x8rear tires. But, to answer your question It tops out around 45mph.There's a high compression piston you can get for the 185 motor if you know what to look for. This was a 1982 185s.I didn't know Honda built a big red in a 185.If you want the higher compression piston look to the late 70's 185 enduro.I think it was around a 1977.Good luck and keep riding.
