I, too, have an 84 250R and as of right now, it is sitting in the garage since I fried the rings. I always go with Wiseco. I don't trust Pro-X.

I have found that it is usually cheaper to just buy the piston and rings from whoever bores the cylinder. If it doesn't need bored, www.recreationunlimited.com is a great place to buy from. I'd buy the rebuild kit. Excellence service when I bought my rear bearing carrier.

They also sell Maier Fender kits for $138.95. That's front and back. That's the cheapest you're going to find, I'm afraid.

Any other questions? I'll try to help.

The cool thing is you can use different styles of front fenders. I restored my '83 R and replaced what I thought to be an ugly front fender with a 350x unit. You can also use the '85 '85 250r replacement as well. It made the front end look much better.

Where is the best place to get a piston for an 84 ATC250R? I was thinking Wiseco, but what does everyone recommend? I am new to ATV, but ride and do everything myself on all my snowmobiles and PWC (standups). Working on a 2 stroke is a no brainer for me, but are there any preferances for piston brands, and who sells at the best price? Thanks for any info.

Also, I need a set of rear fenders, is Maiers (SP?) the best for the money?

Chipdog4 it's interesting that you don't trust ProX. In the watercraft world it's the other way. Reason being that if you start up, hop on and hammer it on an engine with Wiseco's, you will have a cold seize at some point. ProX is much more forgiving being a cast piston. Personally I like Wiseco, but I use ProX quite a bit too for the above reason.

So are ProX and Wiseco the only players in ATV pistons? (besides stock, which I'm sure are expensive)

$140 for front and rear fenders isn't a bad price. I'll have to do that, after I get the thing running of course.

wiseco and niks pro x are the popular brands i know of. or factory. dennis kirk or rockymountain have good prices.

maier is about the best choice for the money, especially since the fenders now have the gloss look. i think factory fenders new are at least $250. you can try ebay for factory fenders at a cheaper price.
