Great Job

Great job. What did the restoration cost you?

I just rebuilt an 85 250R to resell. I think it's like my civic duty to rebuild a 3 wheeler once a year and then I sell them to a responsible dune riding adult. It's not about the money. I enjoy tinkering with them and I just make sure I break even [at least].

BTW, if you get a Sidewinder Stainless or Ti rear sprocket it will last you another 18 years. If you put 20 hours on the alloy [I know it's pretty, but..] that Ti chain will eat it up. I like the Ti rear sprockets; because they are dark they don't show the lube, dirt and grime.

They don't come any cleaner than your 350X. Great job once again.

That does look good.

I wonder if he still has this machine?

predator64 brought this post back to the future.

With those hoosier rear tires I wonder how he rides it?

Thread from the past.

The 350X axle was mounted forward of the fork, so it's in it's stock location.

Maybe Honda did this to lengthen the wheelbase a bit to help keep the front end down? If so..........I don't think the concept workedBR>
I remember talking with Tom here about the time he posted this thread.
I haven't seen him on here in a looooooooong time.

Well,
I completed my project 1985 350x. It wasn't much of a real project like some of you guys here have done. Since my trike only has about 40 hours of riding time on it I just need to replace what need replacing, and use some good aftermarket for the important stuff that was on it's way out. My goal was to make the bike able to last another 18 years of mild and infrequent riding just like it's used to, now.

Here's what I replaced during the 2 month project (much of which was spent waiting on the parts):

Dura Blue H.D. Axle
Magnum Billet TAPERED BEARING Axle Carrier
SideWinder Ti-Moly O-ring Chain
SideWinder Rear Sprocket Blue Anodized Aircarft Alloy
Barnett Dirt Digger Clutch
RAD .25 Aluminum REAR SKIDPLATE
Fork Boots
Sidewinder Tool Steel 13 tooth Front Sprocket
Stock Axle Nuts
Head pipe coated with 2000 degree satin black Jet Coating
FRONT BRAKE PADS ATC 350X ‘85 FDB382MX
Fork Seals
Stock Axle Nut threaded holder
MotionPro MP02-144 Honda ATC 350X Clutch Cable
Decompression Cam Follower
Bearing Carrier Plastic Seals
Dura Blue Alex End Nuts
Tool Box Bag
GASKET, Right side crankcase 11394-HA0-000
Headpipe Mounting Nuts
Headpipe Gaskets
MUFFLER GASKET 18391-317-000
OIL FILTER ELEMENT 15412-HM5-A10
OIL COVER O-RING 91302-KF0-003
2 PIN, COTTER (4.0X40) 94201-40400
SCREW, OVAL (6X25) 93700-06025-0B

Contact me if you have any questions about my little restoration, ok?

NICE!

Posted by: HoosierDaddy

That is friggin awesome. I don't even think mine looked that good new. Mine is in my garage with three flats just calling my name to pretty it up.

Great job. That is one of the cleanest ones I have seen yet, if not THE cleanest.

Posted by: HA2

did u reverse the forks like that or does the front axle sit in front of the forks on a 350x stock? i know the R is behind them.

Posted by: misterexcessive

how fast were those 350xs? i never thought they were that good but to think of it now they must be really light and almost 400ex fast

Acually i fairly sure they were about 400 EX speed wise. My neighbor had one, he let a kid ride it, he hit a driveway lip on the edge and busted his teeth up. I was so scared of that trike they got so much power it's not even funny

BTW, that is so nice looking and i love the rear tires, SWEET!!

Figure I will answer some questions for Tom, being he hasnt been back in a while. He doesn't ride it very much, maby once a month or so, and thats just a quick ride around the yard, or down the road. It is truly a garage queen.

Posted by: AirManCam

I hate to tell you, but I have money that says all you have to do is adjust your clutch cable, or replace that.

hott trike!!

nice job

Very nice

Posted by: Jens73

Very well done indeed! There is a tremendous amount of satisfaction to bringing an older machine like that back to life both mechanically and cosmetically. I'll never forget my old neighbor's words when those machines first came out, "Those are rolling coffins!" lol...... I'd sure love to take that coffin for a spin! Good job.

Nice bike Tom, looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor.

Thats Nice. I love to see a restored trike. Theres no sence in letting them rot away, Bring em' back to life and enjoy them for what they were (are).

Posted by: Lomax

yeah, thats why I restored the little 185s that I have, There is no sence in letting them set out in pastures and turn into dust if there is some chance that you can make it live again. I unfortuantlly have no intentions of keeping this 185s though, I did it just to sell it. If the Idea works however, there will be many more "redone" trikes to make there way out of my shop.

Posted by: MY86ATC350X

dude this is one of the best nicest looking 350x ive seen throughout my life!!! really nice job. really f*****g beutiful.

Posted by: MY86ATC350X

yea i love that bike.

Posted by: MY86ATC350X

I've recently bought a 85 350x and I'm thinking of restoring parts of it, it's actually in really decent condition. Definately ridable. The bad part seems to be the clutch. It lets out only when the clutch lever is almost all the way out. I saw another thread about this issue, so I don't know if that's a characteristic of this model 3wheeler or if it's a indication of the clutch going. I'm thinking it's not a good thing. I was wondering if you had any similar clutch issues with this 350. How much did you spend altogether for the whole restoration. I'd be willing to think about it if I could restore my bike for under $1000. The engine seems sound, and the forks and suspension are good, the rear axel and sprocket have been replaced at some time. The plastics are decent enough. the lights work. The bike just looks old. I can send you pics if you wan to see it.

Posted by: k2e3v80

I talked to another guy here at my work who owns a 350x as well. He said he had the same issue right before his clutch had to be replaced. I ordered new friction plates and a new gasket. Wish me luck. I'm gonna try doing the repairs myself. The guy from the shop I normally go to is slammed with pre thanksgiving repairs, he said the clutch is pretty easy to do and hard to screw up.

Posted by: k2e3v80

I tried adjusting the cable, I messed with that for about a half hour, I got it to work better. I think my main problem was comparing the clutch to my 02 400ex's. I have to remind myself the 350x clutch is 20yrs old and won't work as great. I messed with the bike more last night and rode it around some more I'm starting to think the clutch is fine. I'm still keeping the grind plates for peice of mind.
