friend of mine has a tecate 3 and wondering if anyone has any input or knowledge on this bike. here's the problem. it starts up fine. but once you ride for about 10 minutes it dies and its done for a while. someone had told me it was the stator and ricky stator has the fix. does this sound right to anyone. heard that was why alot of people got rid of the tecates.

no it's my buddies bike and i haven't had a chance to get over there and test it out. he's ordering a stator and flywheel from ricky stator. i'll throw them in then check it out.

ya tecates are sweet. had someone want to trade a tecate4 for an old cbr 600. but when we went to register it had a $6000 lien against it. now it's down in mexico. can't wait to get this thing fired back up.

Pull the tank off and underneathe is a plug with shrink tubing around it. slide it off and chck each plug. that was what wrong with mine, I had one plug barely in. I almost got rid of it after I heard how much a staor and flywheel costs. YIKES!

sound like electrical to me. An open short can occur as things heat up. Do you have a manual?
Check resistance in the stator windings. Do the factory checks with a voltmeter and take down some notes. Do this when cold.
Then let it heat up and fail then do these tests again and see what you can figure out.
If you are a squid and don't work on your own bikes.....take it to the dealer and bend over.
I really think it is electrical.
Have you done ANY tests?????????

thats the way to go man!
RS is the $hit!
There is nothing wrong with tecate's they crank. But they are getting old and tired. Time to spice it up again!
