Someone here will need to jump in to confirm/give advice, but I remember reading somewhere that this type of noise sometimes comes from the cam chain due to a tensioner problem.

I have the same noise with my Baja 250. I have adjusted the valves and the noise is still there. I am sorry I can't help you but if I find out I will post it up for you.

I have a Baja Wilderness 250 and have had alot of fun with it. However, since new it makes a loud "clacking" sound from around the head of the motor....especially when under hard aceleration or load. Could this be just valve noise? are these motors know for such clacking sounds or should i start paying closer attention? Should be noted it does not leak or burn any oil and probably has 800 km on it now.
Anybody else hear this on their 250?

Great thanks, do you know anything about the consequences of this potential problem? Am i doing damage to the machine by riding it as is? I do alot of trail riding in Northern Ontario and if it breaks down out in the bush...its not coming home....ever.
