These are the same. Depending on the manufacturer or whoever. Both are in the drive clutch.

The way it affects the shift is if you change the weight of the rollars, sliders. You can go down to 5gr for more agressive take off and heavier like 8gr for more top end.

stock gy6 150 uses 14gr roller weights, the best performance for the gy6 is to change to the 9 or 10gr sliders, the sliders not only will give you better low end but will also slides up higher on the variator allowing higher top speed, i gained almost 2 mph, one more thing on the sliders that they don't flat spot like the rollers do and wil last a lot longer,

if you choice to install rollers instead of sliders you will loose some top end, the lite rollers airn't heavy enought to open the variator all the way so the belt doesn't slide up all the way ,

one thing to remember about throwing money away on up grades for a chinese quad, for every dollar spent on performance up grades , 00 dollars for return when you go to sell the quad unlike the japanese quads. the best thing to do for a chinese atv is to install the 9 -10gr sliders and leave it, yes their's a lot of performance parts for the gy6 engine but as far as money spent and the little gain in performance, it's just not worth the time and money spent, i've been there and done that. as far as 5000-6000 for a decent atv did you know you could buy a new polaris trailblazer for just under 3000? and i don't care how much money you spend on the 150 it's not going to keep up the the polaris, also the polaris is bigger and has a better suspension, and better dealer support. just my opinion.

I thought that the sliders were better for bottom end torque but loss of topend speed compaired to the same weight rollers
maybe I dreamed that , but I thought I had heard this and I wanted to find out if any one had tried this mod ?

I know from what I have read that you will loose one or two MPH on top end maybe more, but I want bigger mud tires and might also have to change to a larger tooth rear gear.
I'm going to do the mods to the air cleaner and might purchase a dail-a-jet first to get a minor top end skip out first ! Then work on the mods to the rollers, or sliders, and 1500 rpm springs...I'm not after top end speed but want more torque to pull heavy loads...if I don't get the results I'm looking for I can always put it back like it was and/or look at a high torque cam shaft.
I've been haulin' alot more poundage than what the owners manual states and I knew when I purchased it that it was only a 150cc...with all the nice aftermarket parts you can buy you can almost double the horse power (if you have the money.)It's like the old Briggs 5hp engine,you can make these engines more powerful. and still be cheaper than the bigger name brand atv's..... I can't pay $5,000-$7,000 plus dollars for a atv. What little money I paid for this unit I can spend a few dollars to upgrade some parts.
