It is a 12v battery. You can charge it and see if it will take a charge. You can also test the voltage of the battery to see if it is dead or not. The biggest problems with the 50 is the starters will go bad. Depending on how old it is may have the old style starter. The new ones are improved. You can get a starter from raceway atv.

cajunatv123,
Start with the battery first. I noticed you didn't mention anything about your battery. Make sure the battery has a good charge, also you want to make sure that the battery is able to hold a load under starting conditions. Some of the Chinese batteries do not last that long and some do. Your local auto parts or repair shop should be able to load test the battery for.

I had the same problem and was thinking batter, but I tested the battery and it was good. I found push button switch was acting wierd. I pressed the thing about 50times and it finally worked and never had the problem come back. I am assuming it was the switch, but not 100% sure.
Did you try bypassing the switch to see if you can start it?

Generally it is the starter.
You can verify this by taking the positive lead off the starter itself and hooking it to a test light.
Then press the starter button and if it lights up the solonoid is working and the starter is bad.
