Welcome to the forum mustangman! Sorry for missing this but Ive had some computer problems this week. And i dont have any SunL experience either. Are you still having the higher gear and less power problem? Was your sun revving the engine high enough to need to change to the next gear?

good deal mustangman, I was reading too fast and didnt catch the new quad, thought you just got a newpart for it. I didnt think your son was over revving it, I was thinking under revving. Its nice to know there is a good dealer backing SunL products. Let us know how it holds up.

From the symptoms you describe I don&39;t think you have any problems with your transmission or your clutch. The transmission is a standard manual transmission with real gears that would not be affected by heat. The clutch in a semi-auto is a centrifugal clutch and if it were failing because of heat or any other reason, the symptom would be the engine would rev but the ATV would not go faster (clutch slipping). It sounds like the engine is just overheating and losing power, much more apparent in higher gears. The number one reason an engine overheats is because it is running lean (too much air or not enough fuel). Running lean can be caused by a misadjusted carb, dirt or something in a jet (inside the carb), or a leak or crack in the intake manifold. 2manytoys did a good how-to on how to adjust the carb found here HOW TO carb adjustment on any Chinese atv. To check for an intake manifold leak you can use starter fluid or carb cleaner, just spray around the intake manifold while the ATV is running and listen for the engine to rev up. If the engine is running lean and overheating you want to try to get it fixed soon, it will damage the engine sooner or later.

Mustangman,

Not sure why no one has replied to you except that maybe if you had read some of the topics, you may not have chosen to buy a Sunl.

Don't know much about the 110 so not much help for you. We had a 90 Sunl and it was aweful. But it had an automatic transmission. Problems we had with ours was nut & bolts, air filter hose fell off, carb bolts fell out, axle nuts wouldn't stay tight, CDI fell off, battery died after one month, exhaust bolts wouldn't stay in, metal flakes in engine oil, burned through a couple spark plugs when new, the front a-arm type bracket broke and wheel fell off while my son was riding, and to top it off the frame broke. We had it for less than 2 months and my 7 year old rode it and he weighs 34lbs.

I hope you don't have such bad luck with yours. We know people who have 2 90's also and when we went riding with them, I worked on bith bikes for all 3 days we rode. One was not fixable on the second day.

Sorry can't help you more but I would suggest racewayatv if you have questions or problems. That is who we bought our Sunl from and their customer service is great. They should be able to answer any questions you have regarding the transmission.

Best of Luck!!

I just purchased a SunL SLA-110KLB for my son. It is a new model (June 2006 according to their web site) and seems to be built somewhat better than some of the other's that I compared it to. He is a beginner (10 yrs. old) and it is his first quad. Anybody purchase this model have any advise or early observations in terms of how well this quad will hold up OR any early problems with this model.

I have already changed the oil and put in a NGK spark plug. I also used loctite on all the bolts that I had to assemble. I will be putting loctite on the remaing bolts this weekend. The tires were shipped with 22lbs of air and I set them at 5lbs. Any advise will be appreciated as to how I can make this quad last a few years. He will be riding it mainly on a open hay field with some trails in nearby woods.

My early observations: Had one minor problem. My son drove the quad for about 15 minutes in backyard. The next day the quad would not start - No Spark. Problem was with wiring, connection came loose - wire from handbrake to safety switch.

Question: It seemed that after driving the quad for the first time, it felt as though it was loosing power from the trans. 1st gear fine, but when shifted into second it did not seem to have the same get up and go. Shifting into third and it did not seem to have much power at all! After letting it cool down, changed oil to check for metal fragments (none found) and adjusting clutch all seems okay. Do these semi-auto quads have this problem? Is this because it is new and just needs to be broken-in? Do these quads have this problem because of trans temp. being hot?

I am a weekend drag racer (88 Mustang) and have some mechanical ability so any advise will be appreciated.

Nobody has any advise???? Nobody can answer my question regarding the trans??? Has anybody experienced the same or similar problem with the trans/clutch? Thanks!

Wow! I knew that SunL had some problems, not like any of the other Chinese brands, but never thought it would be that bad. Hopefully where and how my son rides will help in the longevity of this atv. I know that I will be checking it over all the time but I guess the deal I got on it was hard to pass it up. Hopefully the new model is built a little bit better than past models. The dealer I purchased it from is local and he informed me that he could get parts for it without much of a problem.

In terms of the trans/clutch problem, after riding it again I just did not like the way it was shifting and contacted my dealer. He was very good in working with me regarding this problem and the other night I loaded up the ATV and brought it back to him. He test drove it and confirmed that the trans/clutch was not functioning properly. He gave me another brand new SLA-110 KLB. This one seems to shift alot smoother. Hopefully I will not have this problem again otherwise I may be asking for a refund!

Right now the quad is running fine...As I stated I was able to get a full replacement/new SunL SLA-110KLB from the dealer that I purchased it from. Hopefully this weekend, my son and I will be getting in some good riding time.

I know that my son did not over-rev the bike because he was only riding in second gear in a small yard to learn how to ride. I was with him the whole time. Plus the throttle screw was turned way in since he is a beginner. It just seemed to lose it's get up and go in second and third gear after it was rode for about 20 minutes the first time. Once I got the quad home, I changed the oil and adjusted the clutch a small bit. I took it for a ride and it seemed fine. Then when my son and I went riding again, the trans/clutch shifting did not seem smooth. This is when I called my dealer and he told me to bring it back.

So far so good with the new one...but time will tell! I just hope that this new model from SunL is better than previous models.

Just an update on the new SunL SLA-110KLB model that I purchased (new SunL model June 2006): This weekend, my son and I went riding on some open property that my Dad owns (around 8 acre's). It is mainly a hay field with small hills, dips, bumps, etc. He ran the quad for about 2 hours total time. Not sure if this is normal but again in terms of the semi-auto trans, after my son ran it for about 20-25 minutes the motor was very hot (air temp. was in the low 80's and humid) and the trans/clutch when shifted into 3rd did not have much power. We shut-off the quad, I checked the oil level (okay) and let it cool down for about 10-15 minutes. We then started it up and it ran like normal and had lots of power in all gears?? Do these clutches/trans have this sympton when it gets hot? Other than this, the quad ran fine, had lots of power, the suspension was comfortable when riding and handled well when I took it for a spin and pushed it alot harder than my son rode it. So far I am very pleased with this quad. Stay tuned....

After riding this past weekend, my son and I spent about an hour or so checking every fastner, bolt, screw and continued to loctite them. After checking the quad out, I can report that everything seems fine to this point. This weekend I hope to put a few more hours of riding time on this quad...stay tuned!

Thanks for the info 9kids. I have adjusted the carb but will check it again. I do think though that the clutch was slipping somewhat because I could rev the engine but it did not have any get up and go mainly in 3rd gear. It was fine in 1st but seemed to loose some power in 2nd and more in 3rd. I know that my son was shifting too soon and not giving it more throttle after he shifted. The engine/trans was working hard to go up the small hills as a result of this. I will check the carb but hopefully this is a non-problem once my son gets more comfortable riding the quad. I did notice in a manual that my friend has for his chinese quad that it states to not run the quad for more than 45 minutes and then let it cool down for 10-15 minutes.

Tha's a bummer jerryolip! Glad to hear that you got support and parts quickly. I guess you need to check all the bolts/fastners and use some loctite. I went through my whole quad and used loctite on every bolt/fastner. I also check the whole quad after each time my son runs it. Takes about an hour but is worth it in terms of making sure it is safe to ride and nothing is going to fall off. Make sure you get the loctite that is rated for high tempature for those exhaust manifold bolts. So far I have had no problem with the battery. Good Luck to both of us!

I wish us luck mustangman, I just bought a 2006 2006 SUNL 125cc TRANSPORTER X4 ATV AUTO NEWEST MODEL from atvdiscounter on 8-12-06. It took a week to get it, 8-18-06. My 2 kids started riding it on saturday the 19 and it all went fine. Sunday it wouldn't start, just a click. I had juice to the starter so I pulled it and its burnt up. They exhaust also came loose which blowing on the started might have helped get it hot. One good thing I contacted atvdiscounter and the new starter came in the mail today. I think I'll get a new battery the one that came with it won't hold a charge. I've had it for a week and its only been broke down now for 5 days
