You don't need an aftermarket cdi you can eliminate the rev limiter by snipping the green wire on the back of the cdi or if its a newer model 2005 or 2006 it will have an adjustable cdi.

What year is your Viper?I have some pictures of the wire on our 04 but I can't seem to get them to work on this site?If you remove the nose cone the cdi is on the right hand side as you face the atv.It is held in a little rubber case that is hanging on a metal tab.You just pull up on the whole thing and it will come off of the tab.Pull the cdi out of the rubber and the wire is on the back of the cdi like Newnick said.Just snip it and put a piece of tape on each end so it can't make connection again...I have not seen a newer 2005,2006 model but they have an adjustable dial on the cdi to increase rpms.

The green wire, if it has one, is on the back of the cdi. It just comes out the back and goes back in the back.

It might not make a difference if you weren't hitting the limiter. If you put a pipe on and do trans mods thats when it is nessesary to remove the limiter.

There is no green wire on the 05's I tried this on my 05 70 Viper, however it should not cut out at half throttle, turn the pots on the CDI to the highest number it should go a couple if clicks past the highest number.

My daughter has an Eton Viper 50, which has been a very dependable and wonderful machine for her. The problem is that now she is getting bigger, and 16 mph is not fast enough for her. The rev limiter seems to kick in at about 1/2 throttle. I did go on Ebay and buy one of those supposed "no rev limit CDI" boxes, but the bike would not start once I plugged it in. The seller told me to unplug one of the wires and put a kill switch on that one and it would work, but I unplugged the wire and it still would not start. When I put the stock CDI back in, it worked as usual. Any other ideas?

I did not find a green wire on the cdi. It has the 2 power wires, in 1 plug together, then 3 other wires, each plugs into similar colored wires on the bike itself. They are black/white stripe, black/red stripe and blue/white stripe. The other electrical items I find in the front of the quad are what looks like a voltage regulator, the coil, and a small block of resistors. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Hers is an '04. I will check again... did not see the wire before, but will recheck.

GREAT!! I found it THANKS ALL for your help! It was covered up by the rubber mounting grommet, which is why I did not see it before. It extends out of the solid state gel on that surface of the CDI.
Thanks again! I can't wait until my daughter tries it now
