The LT80 is a great dune machine. I have several motor in the sand.
The kids love em also. I been to glamis 3 times now and where you camp the kids make lil sand trails around. They seem to go for hours. BR>It may sounmd bias, but 95% of the mini's I saw when there were LT80's.

"run the dunes"
The LT80 will handle dunes fine but to hit the big hills, no stock machine will go up them.

The trx90 is a great kids quad. My older son rode it from age 11 to 14 - moved him up when he got bigger than me Paddles, a big gun exhaust, and a big bore got him up most hills at Coos, Florence, and Winchester if he picked his line carefully. When it got really stuck, it would haul momma up the hill after I got it unstuck BR>
Now, the little brother is riding it and it is going strong. Gotta love that!

I agree with the honda being a good dune bike. I dont even own one but I've seen them do very well even with a bigger kid. A new bike coming out is the Xtreme Typhoon and it's a Honda type motor, imported bike with very good quality/pricing from a reputable importer Xtreme Machine. It looks absolutely sick and is available in a 70,90, and a 125 version. Basically a race bike frame and geometry but priced good. Look that one up also it's gonna be a really good seller.

Good choice with the honda very reliable and easy to drive. But if you put paddles on it it will climb smaller hills stock you will prolly need to look into a pipe,K&N,and jet kit to have the most fun with it. Also if you son is not to big an lt80 does good also.

We just picked up the new Extreme 90 Typhoon for our 6 year old. It is a bad A$$ little quad, It has fully adjustable resi shock with the compression and rebound adjusters, hydraulic disc brakes all the way around and with the 4th gear option installed it flat out runs any other mini out there. Also as a side not it is as wide as our Z400.

Id say the predator 90 with paddles, air filter, pipe... maybe a bit larger carb.. would be the fastest and most reliable..

I am looking to buy a new kids quad for my son to ride at the dunes. I will keep the quad stock except for paddles to be put on it. I do not want to get anthing bigger than a 90cc motor if it is possible, but I do want the quad to be able to climb the hills without getting stuck. I am looking for something very reliable that my son can use for 6 or 7 years. I was thinking about the 2006 Honda TRX90 but I don't know how it does in the sand. Any recommendations is appreciated. Not for racing.
