We all need to be held responsible for 1) our recommending proper sized quads for children, 2) having regard for our laws and 3) being carefull about the many issues within the topic of youthful riders.

This overdose in safety thread started becuase you didn't want others to hear the legal side of the debate - which was the right size quad recommendation for very young children. We have to be carefull to not become myopic in our view points and expereinces.

You didn't like the puppy and tricycle recommendation I made for the man with 3 and 4 year old children. We can't hold ourselves above the law and regulations and the established standards from the industry, off-road associations and consumer protection groups - and tell others to do so also.

Why? doing so would be telling others that putting our own kids at risk on a over sized quad is wrong - but they should do it anyways.

Before finding yourself drowning in being wrong and undefenseable - you may want to rethink your recommendations to others so that you can feel good about whatever results may come from them..

Well, good luck. Personally I would rather return to informing people on how they CAN get thier child into a bigger quad legally.

Going forward - If you want to tell someone to buy a 700cc quad for a 4 year old - go ahead. But don't start whining like a little girl when someone else points out that its not only stupid - but its also illegal. - In most places here in the U.S. anyways. Maybe it is different there in Canada.

But frankly - I don't care.

Guess we should all support same-kind marriages too then, huh? Just because someone passes a law, it doesn't make it right. When law cross common sence, we shouldn't support them.

IMO.

For the last 2 years, I've seen lots of great postings on this forum. Many folks ask questions on how to make their machines better, many ask questions where to purchase parts and some share the knowledge they've learned - hoping it will help others reduce their research / development time. Even the odd safety reminder and supporting URL links are nice to read. Many great postings that have helped many kids, their minis and their parents to become better. To me, that's what this and many other mini-forums are about.

Over the last little while, I've been seeing lots of "the legal law states this, the legal law states that" type postings. Since some of this "sudden birst" stuff does apply to minis, I guess the authors do feel it belongs on this forum. Since there's so much of it flying around, I'm wondering if the Administors of this forum should create a "Legal / Saftey / Venting" sub section. If/when someone feels they need to perform some research on legals laws, safety or vent about negative news reports, the reader can then hope off this forum and start reading that sub forum. A new sub forum would also allow us to retain a more "general subjet" items within this forum.

Note: If there was as sub forum on safety, legal laws, etc. many folks who are experienced in this area could help us populate it. Lots of Training URLs, lots of safety equipment examples, etc. The "real stuff" from experienced folks. To me, that would be much better then a positive report on CBS News.

What do you guys/gals think about this idea???

WOW!!! Sounds like you are venting again.

Just for your record, I would NEVER recommend a 3 / 4 year old to drive a 300+ quad. I would NEVER use our Quad as a baby sitting tool, and I would NEVER build a ramp to allow my son to fly through the air. To me, these acts of "how to allow your kid to commit suicide" is stupid. These "don't dos" is a given in our sport. For those of you who allow your kid to do this stuff "SHAME ON YOU!!!". Just like driving while drunk or driving kids around without their seat belt on - you know better. Hope you get caught and they nail you with everything in the book.

If wondering, our family did go for a little quad run today. There were cops in our park's main parking lot checking Ownership, Insurance and proof of safe driving ability. One of the cops asked where we've been for a while. As we were driving our quads deep in our park, a guy in a black shirt and red vest popped out of the bushes with his Radar Gun. He seen us "put putting" down the straight away and waved high at us. He even gave us a "thumbs up" just before he popped back into the bushes. Yes, he's there to nail the 3 / 4 year olds on 300+ cc quads. The ones the wiggled their way in from the back of the park. This cop is also there to stop 18 year olds with their "ATV Safety Course certificates" from doing wheelies with the Sports quads. Hence the reason for the radar gun in his hand.

Yes, I'm with you when it comes to safety. To me, safety is always more important then laws. If wondering, I do break the law. The law says "I have the legal right to walk across the street light when its green". I always stop and look up & down the street before proceeding. Yes, I break the law and I also encourage my kids and wife to do the same. To me, many laws are defined by a buch of folks sitting in an ivory tower who's never sat on a quad. Much less drove one. They are more focused "on the law" then safety and common sense. You once blamed me for posting words that would offened many disabled people.

Here's something I posted on another forum last week:
---------------------------
Overall, things are going pretty good for my family. This weekend, my "boys & I" hope to take our quads on another nature run. Just a little 2 - 2.5 hour run in our large bush area. As I watch the flack appear on many mini-forums about People's Magazine, CBS news and ATV Instructors flexing their "so called" muscles, I often reflect back and remember the many great times we have with our quads. The great times we have on our trails, the many great "father / son" talks we have during our rest stops, and the beatiful nature we see along the way. Positive memories that would NOT have been possible without our quads. If only someone would write something positive about our sport....

For those of you who don't know, my oldest son is disabled. He's 11 years old and can only say 2 word sentences. He often double rides with me - especially when we play in the mud holes. My other 9 year old son is on his Pred-90 unit. At times, the mud flys all over the place. It's so thick from spraying & splashing one another, I have to sometimes take my hand and wipe it off both our visors. As I do this, my disabled son looks up at me and say, "more mud daddy - please". If you've ever had a disabled child look you straight in the eye with that much pleasure, you'll understand what I'm trying to describe. Words can never describe the positive benefits and joy "our quads" have brought to my family. It's so unfortunate many people can't look past the negative stats and negative BS being pushed around. If only they would look past the tree and see the entire forest.

If you have any improvement ideas or "proud moment" memories to share with others, don't hesitate to post them. Even such things as a better skid plate, daytime running lights, etc. could help many others. To me, helping others in a postive way is what many of our mini-forums are about...
--------------------------

In a previous posting, I "begged" you to help us. Can you help us by posting URLS to better our machines, better our driving skills and by listing the ATV laws in many locations??? Posts within proper headings such as "ATV LAWs in Baltimore", "ATV Laws in Florida", etc. etc. Or, here's many URLs to register on available ATV Safety courses across the country. Or, here's some 3rd party safety equipment (re: wireless headset / microphone systems) that other parents are using. Great stuff that would benefit the majority of us as well.

Not too sure about you.... But I posted many previous things in this forum (and within many other forums) to "help the majority". Each of us know we can NEVERY stop a kid from being hurt. And each of us knows we can't stop every kid from being killed. Accidents do happen - even crossing the road with a green light. Lecturing others until we are blue in the face won't stop another parent from using their mini as a baby sitting tool. And it won't stop them from putting their 3 / 4 year old on a 300+ quad. People will be people. And the majority of those people don't read the stuff on this forum. And the very few who do this and are on this forum, SHAME on YOU!!! You know better!!!!

As stated in previous posts, we need you to help the majority of us. Please provide us lots of URLs that we can "show our kids" (one of those "see, I told you so" proof to our kids), safety increase upgrades ideas that could better each of our minis, where our kids can safely ride and what are the good reputible ATV Course companies across the country.

As stated on another forum, "I believe ATV Instructors are the best of the bunch". Just like the elite "top guns" F-16 Fighter Instructors of our air force. They can either beat everyone over the head with laws / regulations, or lead "the majority of us" into a better direction. Use this forum (and a new sub section??) to "show us ALL your stuff". Stuff in a better organized way!!!! That's all I was implying from my original post.

Like Geeesh..... I am trying to help you...
