I think your LT50 would be OK in a 50cc class... my kid races in a 50cc class on a Polaris Scrambler 50... it can do 35mph, but rarely does she take it there... on a MX style track, there's normally not enough room to wind it out all the way, she (and most ofhter beginners) won't launch themselves off a jump very far (if at all).
The best thing is to get your kid out there for the experiance... remeber, the 50cc class is going to be a lot of beginners on the local level (GNC races are probably an exception to that). What they gain here will be sportsmanship and etiquate, along with some riding style... the speed and jumps will come as they get more comfortable... once they have mastered a 50 so that they are jumping big and winding it out, they are probably ready to move up to the next level.
Every race my daughter finishes is a win in her mind.

We're not talking a stock 50 here... a choked up, restricted 50cc quad will do 15mph... put a tuned exhaust on it, open up the intakes some, play with the clutch and sprockets, it's very easy to get them to go that fast.
Check out the videos at www.gmqa.com and www.apb-racing.com for some 50's that are much faster than 15mph and 90's that are way faster than 30mph.

Honda take the attitude elsewhere. There is no reason to act like that.

I have seen Bryce's daughter on hers (in the vid. clips)and she looks like she is going fast enough for her and her size. Just think when she is ready to kick it up.....look out boys!!! Her ability is unfreakin real.
I must give that lil girl a big....GIRL POWER cheer...yeah. For being out there and doing her thing. YOU GO GIRL!!!!
Thanks Z!!!
She's out of racing for the next 6 weeks... she was involved in a wreck last weekend, and now has a fractured wrist and a fractured elbow... during an open practice, a kid on a dirtbike landed on her and her quad... she was thrown about 6 feet over the bars superman style and landed on her right arm... she was unconcious for about 30seconds... her protective gear saved her life.. the gear's shot, but she's here to tell about it!! As her doctor said, "she's a trooper"... she's ready to get back into racing and upset that she's going to miss a race. She got a real cast on her arm today, and we drew her APB-Racing logo on it, put her web address on it and a #42
She gets her cast off in 6 weeks, and she might make her december race. if not, she'll be back in January.
This give us some time to give the quad a good inspection and take care of some little things we had been putting off on it.

yeah, I had read that on another forum. She sounds like she is pretty stoked about her riding and not put off by the accident. I wish her a speedy recovery.

After a clutch mod, pipe, 25mm carb, and new weights, my son's 50 won't even idle well at 15-18 MPH! I'm not sure where it will top out, my son's not ready to go there and I'm chiken

I just introduced my sons to quads...they are having a blast! My youngest is riding a Suzuki LT 50 and my 8 year old is riding a Yamaha Champ 100. My question is this...they have been bugging me to go to the quad races and I know they can't race what they ride right now, but I was watching some videos online of the 50cc races and I was amazed at how slow the kids we're going. I see these new Chinese quads and they are all tricked out, yet they do not look like they are accelerating any faster than the old LT50's.
Are these little quads as fast as the 50cc moto cross bikes?
My 8 year old used to race LEM and KTM 50's and they were pretty quick, but these quads just don't seem very fast. Will an old LT50 keep up with the little 50's the kids are racing now in the beginner classes?
Thanks, any advice or comment would be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply! You are right about the things learned by just competing. My oldest son raced for a few years on motorcycles and we've never met a finer group of people than those found at the races...always friendly and willing to help. I was curious aobut the quads moreso because I made the mistake of starting him out on a Z50 and he got completely smoked so we bought an LEM and things were much better. I just did not want to put them in the same situation with a quad that just could not compete.
Thanks for the advice!
