I did it. I purchased a 2004 Polaris Predator 50 for my son. I can't wait to get home from work today and give it to him. I am sure it will take him sime time to get use to this ATV, but I was wondering for the future does anyone know of any aftermarket parts or accesories to make the 50 faster? I think top speed is suppose to be 15mph with the jumper removed and the throttle limitier opened up, but I am sure he/we will want more than that.

As much as I'd like ot be a dealer of these parts, I'm not... APB-Racing is just what we are calling our racing team. Almost all of the stuff that I have on our quad came from Tommy at www.miniatvparts.com . I'll let you know what I've done with ours, but I'm no expert.

A 50cc quad has a lot more potential than the stock 15mph... Ours has been clocked at over 33mph, and whas more potential.. it just costs money BR>
The first thing I would do is to start pestering some of the pipe makers to make a pipe for that little quad... teh normal 50cc quad pipes won't work on that quad (I don't imagine) since it is a new smaller frame (Possibly based on the aeon mini-cobra).

Good luck on it... let us know how you like it in thefuture still. I'm interested in it for my youngest little racer when he's ready.

There are many different things you can do to make the Pred-50 go faster. These things range from sprocket, filter, head, pipe, tranny, carb, clutch, etc. mods. Since your unit is still on warranty, you may want to wait before you apply any 3rd party modifications. After the warranty period is over and if your son is demanding more power, then "start moding away". To obtain expert advice on the correct balance of mods, based on your riding conditions, you can contact all/any of the below. Each of their Specialized Consultants will provide you the experienced "balanced" recommendations you may be looking for.

My son has the same complaint on the thumb throttle. As soon as I/we get into riding good, he says his thumb hurts. Where did you get the twist throttle and was it difficult to add on. My son has a Predator 90.
Thanks,

daddysgirl,
What kind of gains did you see with the new CDI, and which one did you choose. I too am waiting patiently on a pipe for this quad.

I'll check out speedwerx. Where did you find the pipes...I'm fixing to go premix anyway.

criminalmind,
I'm not sure about Speedwerx's products...decided to play it safe and go with WRH racing. I bought a box from Billy Holt, and it lifted the 15mph limit. I don't know how fast it goes, but it definetly winds the little engine up.
I also made two minor mods that Billy clued me in to, and WOW. It's not a full out race machine, but has alot more punch now.

Give Billy a call,

WRH Racing

He's great to deal with!

1) Lower the carb needle by raising the clip one position. The carb is jetted rich from the factory, so this will lean it out a bit.

2) Remove the stinger on the end of the exhaust pipe by cutting it off flush with the back of the muffler. Then take a drill bit the same size as the muffler opening and drill a hole through the internal baffle. This removes SOME of the backpressure that is caused by the restrictive OEM exhaust. It also makes the quad sound pretty cool!

I did these two mods prior to installing the CDI, and the low end punch that it added to the machine was quite noticeable. I warned my son about the extra power before he took off, and it nearly through him off the back because he wasn't expecting it. The CDI was just icing on the cake. I clocked the speed with a GPS unit last night, and was able to hit 19mph before having to shut it down (my street is too short), and the bike was still pulling.

if you can find a pipe for your 2004 polaris predator 50 please let me know.i bought a new ignition for ours it was 100$ just plug it in ,it would bypass the rev limiter.it works well.we pulled the factory jumper too.

i bought the ignition from a place in michigan called speedwerx.com i told them it was for a predator 50 but the one they give you is for a 90 but it works very well.another thing i did was put a twist throttle on it because there thumbs dont have any muscle and they can ride alot longer.let me know if you want to do it and i will let you know what you have to do.all the pipes i checked on you had to remove the battery and oil injection and i dont want to do that.......good luck img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">

akwood, im sorry, what i wrote about the pipe was that they only make them for the 90 and you have to remove all the battery and the oil injection.everywhere i called they dont make them and they are not going to. people say there is not enough in demand and the cost of r&d.im going to just wait another year and get her a bigger one.I live in so calif i called them all FMF,PRO CIRCUT,DG,TRINITY.SORRY AGAIN.if you find one please let me know.

criminalmind, The new ignition took about 1 minute to install.Just unplug the old ignition and install the new,it comes with instructions. I clocked it with my wifes car and it went 28mph with me on it and i am 200lbs.It is worth the money, I would get it. I am definetly going to get the pipe and air cleaner.good luck, keep me up to date.

dogg, My little girl has a predator 50 2004 the handle bars are 7/8" where they clamp around the triple clamps, but where the grips are it goes down to 3/4"and nobody makes a twist throttle for that.I will bet your 90 has a handle bar dimension of 7/8'" all the way to the end.You can buy a after market twist at any bike shop and it should fit , the only thing is your cable end might not fitand you will need to have a cable made.TERRYCABLE.COM in Victorville Calif. call them and you can buy the whole set up twist and cable from them.check the diameter of your bars first. On ours we had to change the bars(from a kx 60)and the twist is from a yamaha yz125 but it works great. She is 7 yrs old and we ride for 2 hrs at a time. let me know if you need any help. c-ya

Daddysgirl,
I just got off the phone with Speedwerx, they have the ignition box for the predator 90 but said it works on the 50. What was the difference in top end speed you got when you installed it? Was it a simple process to install the new one. When I asked about other products for the Predator 50, they said there is a $50 air filter kit and they should have a pipe available in 2-4 weeks, they just need to finalize testing. Looks like you might get the pipe you have been looking for.

Daddysgirl,
I have twin 8 year old boys and they each have a 2004 predator 50. After reading this thread and your response and talking to the guy at Speedwerx, I bought two of the ignition boxes from Speedwerx. I installed them tonight and it didn't make a difference in top end speed at all. They would go 15 mph before and only went 15 mph after I installed them. Since this is two different quads and two different ignition boxes, I am inclined to believe it isn't because of a defective ignition box. I matched the colored wires and had a grey one left over, which is what I was expecting. There were no instructions, just two ignition boxes. I didn't see anything else I could do different. The sound, performance and speed of the quads seems no different. I was expecting at least a 10 mph increase in speed. Was there anything else you did when you installed your ignition box? Was 15mph the top end you had before you installed the new ignition box? I will be calling Speedwerx tomorrow, just wondering if you had any ideas on why nothing changed for our quads?

Akwood, What were the other two minor mods you made to your Predator 50? I would be interested in making them also.

Thanks!
