Default 300 Bayou oil change ???

I am about to change the oil on my 98 300 Bayou for the first time. (Since i got it). There are afew questions i have.
1) Is there an oil filter, if so where is it located. Or is there an oil screen? (where)
2) What type and grade of oil would be best?
3) are there any oil additives that would make it work better and run smoother.

I would appreciate any other advice anyone may have.

Thanks
Greg

On the right(riders perspective)side of the engine toward the bottom and front you will see a piece of plastic w/ 3 screws. Unsrew and and out comes the oil filter. It a cylinder abbout an inch in diameter and 3 inches long. The drain plug is underneath the engine and is easy to find. I ran 10W40 in mine for 4 yearsand never had a single problem

Default 300 Bayou oil change ???

Hey gdcharlton,,,Congrats on the Bayou,,,Hands down the simplest but most reliable engine money can buy... Anyway,,just to add to the previous info from BIGGIN,,, When you change the oil filter,,be sure to put it back the right way as it CAN go the wrong way with a little force,,so if it does not go together easy,,,be sure it is right way,, afterwards just to be certain,,you can loosen the banjo bolt to make sure shes pumping oil through. BIGGIN is correct 10w40 gives you a good wide range of operation,,just change the oil often, thats the key,,,Also when it comes to changing the rear end oil,,,BECAREFUL it is an aluminum housing do not over tighten it.. or cross thread it.. I speak of experience,,guy I got mine from cross threaded it,,,so I ended up re-tapping it..anyway,,hope this helps and enjoy

Thanks guys, works great!!!!

Big improvement on my proformance. I guess the guy who sold it to me lied. He said he changed it the day before I bought it.

Thanks again

Check to make certain that the air filter is clean and properly seated.
