I had a trx 250r cylinder bored one over about three years ago for 50.00- it'll probably be somewhat similar in cost

I just paid $60.00 to have a cylinder bored & honed. Reasonable for this area as not too many shops have the capability or expertise to handle small cylinders.

Dang in my area, it only cost $25 for mine to be bored. The other place I took my 400 cylinder one time charge me $30. And I thought that was hi considering I can get it done for $25. And plus I know the guy who does it, and is a former MX racer, so it makes it a little easier to trust his work. But I have to chamfer the ports myself, they don't do it.

Basically filing the edges of the ports. After it's bore and honed, you basically sharpen the edges of the ports, kind of like sharpening a knife. You can fell the edge after it's done. You need to file down the edges of all the ports (especially the top and bottom of the ports) because if you don't you have a chance of a ring catching the edge of the port, and then you either shader your piston, or cause damage to the cylinder sleeve. My friend learned this the hard way (before we knew anything about motors) with his 400. He just put a .020 over in his Polaris, and it shattered like 2 days later. Took it to or local shop and was told the edges of the ports were the cause when he got it bored. Even after I just got my LT bored, the guy who use to race told me when he gave my cylinder back that I need to chamfer the ports. I'm sure the shop will do it at your request, but it may cost a little extra. That's why they may be higher.

well theres a machine shop near my house in kinglsey pa that bores cylinders at a starting rate of 25 dollars and it will go up a little bit if the cylinder is real hard to mount and his boring machine is accurate to within to a 10th of half a thousand of an inch

Yes, take the piston with you... they will actually bore to match the exact piston you are going to use.

Ride On.

Vinson, You still have ports that need to be deburred.*OPPS 4 cycles don't have ports* This should be done by the same person who bores it, I would think.
