300EX smoking = rebuild? = bore kit?
#1
Hey,
i'm kinda looking to get a 4wheeler to ride with my friends. just don't have a lot of $$ to blow right now though. but i saw an ad for 95' 300EX, running but blows some smoke for $1300.
i don't know a lot about 4wheelers, so please bear with me. i guess my first question would be, what would cause it to smoke? obviously engine work needs to be done, so could i find a bore kit and give it some extra power while i'm at it? how much work is involved in this? i've got a friend who works at a Motorsports dealer who could probably help me out some. but i don't want to ask him if it's going to be a lot of work on him. and how much should i expect to spend to make this reliable again? (please mention any other problems you might forsee as well)
would this be worth my trouble?
many thanks,
bigmac

There is no way to guess what is wrong until you actually tear the engine down. It could be a 5.00 valve seal and then again, it could be a 300.00 complete rebuild and bore job. [or more]
300EX's in GOOD shape go for that price all the time. I would skip this one and keep checking around or talk this guy down a few hundred dollars so that you have a little room for engine work without going over the value of the machine.
