timberwolf oil change question
i am trying to change the oil in my yamaha timberwolf 250 4x4. i did find the engine oil drain plug under engine and it seemed to empty crankcase according to dipstick. BUT....I noticed that it has a bolt on the shifter side (left side, looking from rear). is that a seperate gearbox oil or is that same as the engine oil. i took off bolt and oil seems to gush out...i dont want to fill it up with engine oil when in fact it is gearbox oil. any help is appreciated.
p.s. i wouldnt mind a link to timberwolf 250 4x4 repair manual.

On mine, I do not remeber a drain plug under the engine, There is one bigger then a toonie that is on the left side, Behind it is the screen and spring, and then there is the oil filter on the other side. Hopefully this screen shot is good enough to help you for the time being till I can find somewhere to up it, Or PM me your email and I'll email it to ya/

thanks for reply...seems like your model is different. on the one i have, there is no bolt to take off on the right side of motor next to brake pedal, the engine oil plug is directly under engine. it looks like the plugs on the rear differential and requires an allen wrench to take off. on the left side of motor to the left of swing arm bolt, there is a bolt that comes off and spews oil. thats the one im having questions about. i used to have a 2wd timberwolf that is exactly as u describe yours and which the manual describes. the current 4x4 timberwolf i have seems to be bit different. hope this all makes sense...

Did you ever get an answer? I am looking for the same thing. My 4x4 Timberwolf blew the yokes and universal shells, so I had to replace and ended up removing the engine side yoke to the front drive shaft and oil spewed out.
I need to know if I should be filling at that Plug/Bolt you mention, or (give the oil was black) is it main engine oil that is flung from the con-rod and auto fills?
Anyway, I'm hoping to find out if I need to fill that location with oil, or??? and then what grade.....
Cheers from NZ
