Lakota puking gas..?!
One of our Lakotas is leaking gas right out the drain tube when the motor stops running. I'm not a mechanical guru like some of you guys, but I took it out and everything seemed tight. The drain screw (allen keyed) is tightened up, but the gas leaks right out. This happens when the motor is shut off, or when trying to start (I say trying because it doesn't always, but I'm gonna try a new plug). If the petcock is off, it's good, but if it drained I need it back on to start it, and if it doesn't start, it leakes right back out. It also doesn't run on "on", I always use "reserve", if that means anything to you guys... Any input would be appreciated, thanx.

wow, i can't believe this post is here. I was just about to post that my Bayou 250's are sputtering when i hit the throttle, and one of them after riding fine and then shutting down, will leak gas out of the tube that goes from the carb to the bottom of the machine. this lakota issue is identical it seems like. I was going to replace the plugs, and was guessing it was a carb issue.
how difficult is it to take apart the carb? i've never done it before, i am not a mechanic, but i do have common sense and can read my service manual. i don't know the parts named off above by looking at it, so i am wondering if anyone has advice on whether i should be able to do this myself (tear down carbs and rebuild) or if i should just take it to the dealer. i do not intend to hijack this thread, just want some advice on the same subject.
Thanks!
