Joking aside, it's a major issue for us as Americans over the long haul. Sucks to have to pay for this. They don't have any resources to pay us back with either...Unless we get into the heroin business.
Here's what I think we should do: Draw a new border in the south and secure to the best condition possible......tanks, troops, razor wire, trenches, WWII style...Pull all our existing troops out of the mountains back into this new "safe" zone (give them 4wheelers to get around quickly in the rough terrain). Then on a month by month basis, the new border is slowly moved north until we meet a resistance level that is unacceptable in time, effort, money and American lives. The remaining land can be offered to Pakistan or Uzbekistan if they're willing to fight for it. If they don't want it, the land is deemed "unorganized wasteland". During the process we extract peaceable families and resettle them in the south. The remaining combatants are harassed and killed off daily by an endless barrage of drones until there's none left. We squeeze them into the mountains with Pakistan permanently. Anybody convicted of foul play in the south is deposited in the north. Whatever southern land that is ultimately secured becomes the new Afghanistan. Give it a new name, like "New Afgan". Basically chop it up, keep the best and surgically eliminate the worst over time with reduced cost in lives and dollars.
