Default 2007 Sportsman 800 Oil Change

Hey all --

Just bought a last of the 2007's 800 Sportsman and need to do first (20h) oil change. Anything special I need to know about changing the fluid on this bike? Did some cruising the the forums and there is a lot of talk about the older sportsmans and having the drain in 2 places, but couldn't really find anything special about the newer style sportsmans.

Do I just need to run the engine, drain the oil out the plug, change the filter, and add new oil?

Newbie here, so be gentle.

Randy

yep, If you want to do a full change, you will need 4 different oils, AGL, Angle Drive Fluid, Premium Demand Drive Fluid, and some 0W-40 motor oil, and if you want, you can get a napa (wix) filter 1356, but for just the motor, yes you just pull the drain plug, change filter, and fill'er up, if your just doing the motor oil, be sure you pull the front drain plug, and not the transmission plug in the back
Also grease up the front prop shaft, and a-arms (front and rear)

Also I PM'd you the link to the service manual, that should explain everything you'd ever need

I think for now I just need to change the engine oil?

When Should I do the other fluids? (I'm as basic of a rider as you will find)

So there is only 1 drain plug for the oil in the motor and not an oil res on the 2007's?

Thanks

Plus you need the "little" filter wrench to spin the filter off, tghe Poo dealer will nab for $12, Wal Mart gets $4

I would use ams oil. Or you could just buy the oil change kit from your polaris dealer but i would stick with ams oil. i just use oil filter pliers.

I use filter pliers, simply because I have them, but I have thought about getting the filter "socket" for a 3/8" ratchet

Works great in tight spot, or like me, put about 8' of extensions on the rachet, and sit on my homemade stool, and spin that filter off!! As for the oil, love Amsoil, but normally buy the Poo kit with filter. The big thing to remember is your air filter, got to keep that bugger clean, go with K&N filter 1003, will last the lifetime of the ATV, easy to clean, buy the skin for it too.
