I recently bought a multimeter when I started to have problems but have to say I really don't know how to use it. I guess it would be more clear if I pulled the stator wire out because right now I don't even know where the end is at.
As per the book,

Measure the resistance value of each of the three stator
legs: Y1 to Y2, Y1 to Y3, and Y2 to Y3. Each should
measure 0.19 Ω ± 15 %.

And

Charge Coil Y1, Y2, or Y3 to Ground Open (Infinity)

Check for continuity between all three wires, then check each wire for continuity to ground(which it should not have any)
