I have two of them and no issues with the stator.......
I am on my third ECM though.......Does all kinds of wired stuff if this is bad.
Side note here.....I pressure wash my Quads after every full day trip and do go in water up to the headlights with no issues so far.
The dealer may have just took a guess with your trouble IMO.
I would check into it a little more before you tear into it....
