Default trailer light question

First, make sure you have a good ground - hardwired, not using the trailer touching the ball as a ground. A bad ground can cause all kinds of wierd problems.

What is your tow vehicle, and does it have amber turn signals. If it does have amber turns that are separate from the brake lights, then there is a convertor box that you need to wire in to the tow vehicle. If it has a factory harness, then it already has this.

Other possibility is that you have a turn signal wire touching the brown somewhere.
