Default 2003 Vinson Park Problems

I recently bought a 2003 Suzuki Vinson 500 with 475 miles. The problem is that just today I realized the Park does not hold. The lever moves at the side of the front part of the rear gearbox, but nothing gets locked up.

Could it be that some one started in foward with the park engaged and broke a pin or the like in the case.

I have used the park before, but never on a hill. So I don't know if it is a "new" problem, or I bought itthat way.

Any suggestions on how to fix it and if it could be caused by the above misshandling?

Thanks. I have been enjoying the board for sometime.

On my 05, the parking pawl latches the rear driveshaft with a cable near the rear chunk. Check to see if the cable is moving the linkage there.

As I stated in the post, the lever is moving and the cable is fine. It doesn't engage.
Could I have broken a shear pin or the like?

Possibly, did you look for movement at the lever on the rear axle housing?

The cable is moving the lever. The lever is moving the shaft that goes into the housing. Something must be broke inside the housing.

QUESTION is....what is broke and has anybody had this problem and fixed it??

Hey, I'm just trying to help. If this link doesn't work just look up your bike and the diagram. I have not heard of anyone having your specific problem. Possibly item 45 or 51 is broken. Good luck with it. By the way no need to shout. Some people dont check the obvious before posting and asking for help so I try and start off with the basics in troubleshooting a specific problem.

I'm not shouting (at you) just frustrated. I guess I'll just have to tear down the side plate and take a look inside. Thanks for the suggestions.
