Default CARB PROBLEM - 1994 POLARIS 300 4X4 2 STROKE

Hi Gang. Once again I am asking for help. I have a 1994 Polaris 300 Trail Boss, 2 stroke that won't run. I just got it back - Sold it to a guy I work with and had to repo it. It died on him. Said he started it up one day and it ran for about 30 seconds and just died. I did a carb rebuild - all new jets. Won't run unless you choke the hell out of it and then only for a few seconds. Pulled the head and it appeared the head gasket was burnt. Replaced the head gasket - simple on these 2 strokes. Ended up getting another carb. Tried that, Same routine. Had it running good today after I adjusted the float arm. Only problem was it was spitting gas out the back of the carb. Thought ok - just put a smaller pilot jet in. When I took it apart (I have been changing the jets in the 2 carbs I got - Had it apart seems like 32 times) I realized I had not put a pilot jet in. I put the one with the biggest holes in it back in the carb and reinstalled. Same Same, Choke and run 10 seconds. I am wondering if the carb boot that goes from the carb to the engine could be the problem. Didn't want to spend the 75 bucks unless I had some assurance from you all that could be the problem. When I originally had this machine it ran great. Always stored inside. When I sold it to my co-worker he stored it outside under a lean-to. Help please. One final note - 650 original miles on it.....

you could try to unhook the rev limiter. that could help.
what do the reeds look like?
is the spark plug new?

Before giving advice get your facts.
The only Polaris with reeds are the 350L and 400L
Yes chances are the topend needs done but do check everything else first even the gas in the pipe. This is coming from experiances with the same issue.

Default CARB PROBLEM - 1994 POLARIS 300 4X4 2 STROKE

According to my Haynes manual and also a Clymer manual I have these 300's don't have a reed. 350 and 400 are shown with reeds but not the 300. What is the acceptable compression. i checked it again this morn and got about 95 lbs. I checked the gas in pipe and found none. Easy on this sucker since the pipe is on with springs. I think I will pull the whole exhaust tomorrow and check it all out.

Minimum compression on 250-300 engines 100-110 psi! If not save your $ for rebuild. Also most people forget that you have bottom end compression also(crank seals)! If leaking/worn even 150 psi compression wont help! will just crank and rev or just erratic idle and just die. AGAIN as posted above 250-300 are piston port engines NO reeds. 350-400 have reeds. Good luck
