Polaris left my rear differential empty on my new 2008 sportsman EFI.

The @#$%#$ dealer never checked it.

I spent way too many hours, over 10, trying to figure out why the quad pulls to the right and never got around to checking the rear diff fluid level.

I can't believe something didn't seize from heat or something.

 

I had the same problem. I posted about it a few weeks ago. I had read about it on here, another guy found his near empty, brand new so I checked mine and sure enough it ess than 2 ounces. My dealer was embarrased, but said it isn't on Polaris' dealer checklist. he said they were going to start checking them anyway.

 

This is ridiculous! You aren't the first person to experience this travesty! I blame the dealers, though. It is their responsiblity to assure you are ready to go when you buy it! I would certainly demand them to step up and replace it as it surely caused premature wear.

I think it only holds (rear diff.) 5 oz, it says 1 5/8" from the top of the fill hole and it seams to measure accurate but I still pre-measure out the fluid to be sure.
This is for a 2002 sp700.

Gearcase Oil Changing Procedure
1. Remove drain plug (2). Catch and discard used oil properly.
2. Clean and reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer and
tighten securely (14 ft. lbs./1.93 kgm).
3. Remove fill plug and add 5 ounces (150 ml of GL5 80-90 weight
gear lube. Inspect the oil level. The oil level should be maintained
1 5/8 in. from the top of the fill plug hole.
4. Reinstall the fill plug. Tighten securely (14 ft. lbs/1.93 kgm).
5. Check for leaks.

On the '08s the fill plug is in the rear and the level should be up to the hole. You can still see the casting boss on the left side for the old location . The new location is slightly lower. The quanity is still 5 ounces.

 

well for the hell of it i got curious and decided to drain my rear end after read this awhike ago and since it wasnt time for it(only 18 hrs.) i figured it was cheap insurance. i drain 5.5 ozs out of it just what theres supposed to be. pretty gray in color from the metal but still at least i know that there was plenty and now there is 5 .ozs back in.

I checked mine and it was about 1/2 inch from the fill hole. I am pretty sure this is a ok level, but i filled it the rest of the way.

 

Just wanted to vent... We also purchased a Polaris ATV.. a RZR late last fall. We only put a few hours on it and winter arrived. This year we took it out once and it began making a suspicious noise. Called a dealer about looking at it and lo and behold the warranty had expired. It's my bad for not noticing that the warranty was only six months but I was under the assumption (assume nothing, I guess) that it possessed a one year warranty as should anything that cost nearly 14K!! We decided to investigate the problem ourselves and noticed that none of the gear boxes had any oil!!! Now we are looking at close to two thousand dollars to fix this damn thing!! The Polaris company should stand behind such incompetence! Has anyone had any success in getting satisfaction from a dealer or the company? Their website's customer contact links are a joke. They don't have a phone number that I could come up with... just like to call and give them a thought or two.

 

polaris will tell you to deal w/ the dealer anyways. did your dealer see that there was no oil in any of the front/rear ends as well as the tranny?
