So what is everyone's thought's on yammies new atv I for one think it's a lil on the high side I mean for a few hundred more you can get a 700 minus the power steering but gezz I can do with out it but power on the other hand!!!!!

 

Yamaha needed a mid size Utility ATV like Kawasaki desperately needs. The 421cc 26hp Grizzly was down on power for the mid size class. I agree with you that for a extra $500 you might as well get the 700 Grizzly which weighs the same as the new 550 anyways. You can not buy that much more power for only $500 with engine mods.

The 550 is the same hight,weight.length,width and almost price as the big bore 700 so why go to the less powerful 550?

 

I think they hit the nail on the head other than the price. I like the 500cc class. It has a good balance between power and fuel economy. When I bought my sportsman I was talking to several others who I ride with. I asked what the difference is between a 500 and a 700. Their answer was a 1/4 of a tank. I can't take this 700 any more palces than the 500. I think 7700 for the EPS is a little steep especially in this economy.

 

It's actually a great idea. Like ttaylor said, the price is the only thing that's retarded about it. Granted, I would prefer it to be a little smaller, but that's not too big of a deal. (the 450 is only 10lbs lighter than the 700) I would also like to see the exact same frame style just squeezed down to the 450 dimensions.


Hopefully the 550 will run cooler.

The 550 looks to be the exact same machine as the 700 except for the engine.

The 550 will have the rad,waterpump and cooling system of the more powerful 700 so the 550 should run cooler. Less power=less heat.

Why do the 700s over heat?

 

Personally I was very excited to hear about the 550 when they first announced it. But when I found out that it was basically a 550 version of the 700 and not a 550 version of the 450, I lost interest.

I like the smaller chassis of the 450. If I wanted the larger chassis of the 700 I would spend a few bucks more and get the 700.

Because yami engines typically run hot anyways. If the cooling system isn't working perfectly, it'll run hot. (basically if you get the radiator muddy, it'll run warm. If you get it clogged, it'll overheat...) If they would install a higher powered fan, wider gaps in the fins and a triple flow system in them, they would be the shiznitleban snip snap snappy... What he said [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img] Head - we just love our 450's too much... I ran 75 miles will all big bores this past weekend - I did just fine :-) some of them rode too fast for the trail anyhow.. hahah

I would prefer the smaller 450 chassis too. I just feel you have more control over the quad than on the bigger sized quads. But hey at least it is a 550 with fuel injection and power steering.

I wonder if you could simply take the power steering (complete stem) from a 550 and put it on the 450 and make it work???
