Default 2001 Traxter XT 500 4x4 questions

Well I'm trying to sell my 1999 400ex and someone has offered me a 01 xt Traxter. Does anyone have any info on these? I've been searching but haven't really found out a whole lot about them so I figured I'd ask here. First off are these fully auto or do they just have the electric push button shift? And how much do these weigh I found on one site 750lbs or somewhere around that and that seems extremely heavy? How reliable are these things? How do they compare in size and power to other 500 4x4s? What do they have for options (limited slip/locking diffs/etc)? How much do you think one of these would be worth? According to nada and kbb this books for 1-2000 more then my ex does and he wants to do an even trade for it. Does this sound like a good deal? I'm worried if I trade for it I wont be able to sell it as fast as my ex because everyone thinks there butt ugly that I talk to. Thanks for any help!!!!!

What probelms have you seen? And how good of a machine would it be for on a farm? I'm either trading for it and selling it or trading for it and selling it to my grandpa for cheap for farm use. Thanks P.S. I'm asking 2300obo for my ex and I would think if I were to sell it I could get 3000 pretty easliy for it. But I'm not sure on how big of a market there is for these.

Cams, piston/rings, stator. All in all a really good work horse, but not many ppl are looking for them either. So it would be really hard to sell.

Alrighty well if I can talk my grandpa into it is the only way I should do it then. They seem like they would make a really nice 4x4 quad but not at all interested in having one myself. Thanks for the help.

I personally love the traxter. I think it is a really solid bike. my dad has the 500, he uses it for everything from yard work to trail riding to snowplowing. he has around 400 hrs on his and has not had any major componets fail. He maintains it all himself and it is a very easy machine to maintain. it is fast for its weight, and it is extremly fuel effiecent. (probably as a result of the transmission) he can go about 20% further on the traxeter than I can on my outlander. and his is carburated. so thats saying something for the engine.

I'm surprised you say people think it is ugly. I actually kind of like it. and it has some cool fgeatures that other atvs don't. like a large front storage bin. and rear mounted rad that stays very clean when riding. I'm surprised BRP does not still produce a rear mounted rad bike. I know it is not a super popular bike, but it is not really a sport bike, which is what is popular now. but it is extremly versatile, and in my experience very reliable. just make sure you use the BRP oil. as the same oil that lubricates the engine also acts as a tranny fluid, so you can;t just dump 5-30 in it and expect good results. you have to spend $40 or so on the higher quality oil.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>What problems have you seen?</end quote></div>
<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Cams, piston/rings, stator.</end quote></div>
What????
Give me some links of all of these common problems.
The traxter has some problems. (ride quality and once in a while you will see electro shift problems.) Reliability is not one of them though.

Rings? What goes wrong with pistons or rings on the traxter?

Bombardier and Deere had a partnership for a while and these machines were the result. I don't think they are available any more but they fit right in on the farm. Basically a green and yellow Traxter with Deere decals.
