171FMM engine who makes it ?
I have a Taotao 250 D with the 233cc 171FMM engine that looks like the other Chinese 250cc ATV engines but I can not figure who makes it. I have checked Loncin, Lifan, Zongshen, Jianshe and can't seem to find the 171FMM model number with any of these companies other than Loncin which corresponds to a 171FMM but looks nothing like the engine I have and is 250cc but also pull start design.
Any ideas guys on who actually makes these 171FMM engines in China ? Thanks.....Slydog

171FMM engine who makes it ?
This unit has a 171FMM motor listed.
http://www.ecvv.com/offerdetail/I1179629.html
Which gives a link to the parent company. ChongQing LianFei Motorcycle Manufacturing CO.,LTD
http://ztrongsina.ecvv.com/
Sounds like they are making there own engines for there units.

171FMM engine who makes it ?
Thanks ghcoe,
Any info we get can help, I too have found many companies that have the 171FMM engine on the trade lead websites like alibaba etc. but they appear to not manufacture the engines. It is out sourced to a engine manufacturer that goes by "cg engine" which I can not yet find in china.
I would be very interested in seeing the badge and ID tag on the Hunter 250cc you ordered, so when you get it let us know what model engine it has, even though it is watercooled and shaft drive I have found claims of it being made by the same "cg engine" making the 171FMM air cooled 250cc on our ATV's.............thanks again, Slydog

171FMM engine who makes it ?
Thanks sflarider,
I recently found that Jianshe (Yamaha) has a JS171FMM-3 engine that is 229cc but looks nothing like our 171FMM engine. Loncin also has a LC171FMM but it too looks nothing like our 171FMM engine. I have e-mail's out to Lifan, Jianshe, and Zonghshen seeing if they will claim to of made the engine, but nothing yet. All manufacturer's have their own designation such as below and they claim that a genuine engine should have these.......
Lifan LFxxx (LLL) on the bolts, but can be cloned.
Loncin LCxxx
Jianshe JSxxx
Zongshen ZSxxx, and CGxxx
So a Loncin should be LC171FMM and so on. The 171FMM appears to have at least some Lifan parts and should be 229cc-248cc depending on the bore and stroke. 71 in 171FMM should indicate 71mm bore and the stroke is reported to be about 59mm for about 234cc. This is what I have found out so far, but we really need to find out if the 171FMM is just made up to fool people as an OEM part number or if it actually corresponds to an actual company that made it.
I personally think it is this confusion in chinese ATV's as far as parts availability that makes your average consumer stray away from chinese ATV's because if something breaks where do you get it, not the local ATV shop. You have to depend on dealer's and even they often don't know where it is made, they just get it from their wholesale supplier that got it from some place in china !
