How many miles do atvs go for?
I just got my first wheeler. Its a 2007 Yamaha Grizzly 700 and it has 1200 miles on it. I was curious as to how many miles I should be able to get out of this quad? I dont beat it at all, but I do use the power and get on it somtimes. Im good about oil changes and maintnence stuff too.
How many miles is the most you have heard of getting out of a 4x4 atv? And what is realistic to expect out of mine?

I know one person that has 5000 miles on his Honda Rancher 350, two people that have 6000 miles on their Grizzlys, and another person that has 8000 miles on his Grizzly. All of these ATVs were still going strong as well, although they had needed what I would call routine maintenance. Two of them had had to have wheel bearings replaced. So you should easily get 6000 to 8000 miles out of that Grizzly, ... maybe even 10000. I've put 1100 miles on my Grizzly in the first four months I've owned it. It has the five year bumper to bumper warranty, and I plan on just running the wheels off of it.
Congrats with the new Grizzly, and have fun with it.

The simple answer is "a life time." Wear surfaces don't last forever. Seals don't last forever. Many other things on your quad don't last forever. BUT those things can be replaced, and replaced, and replaced.....................
As long as those parts can be had, your quad will last a lifetime and then some.

With proper maintenance these small engines can last forever. Same goes for the frame and suspension. Basically, it will last as long as you choose to make it last. The better you keep up with maintenance, the more often you clean it up before you shut it down for the day, and so on, the longer its going to last. And this doesn't mean you have to baby the machine, either, you can still ride hard as long as you take care of it after your ride!

Yurfat,
Wow! That's a lot. If I changed my oil every two rides, I'd be changing twice per week--no, I don't think I will that much.

How long are your rides though, and how much do you abuse the machine? The rides I am talking about are 150+ mi at speeds that are as fast as a Kodiak can go. I usually buy oil in cases and change once a week and torque all bolts if the machine is used heavily, and at least once a month when it doesnt get used all that much. I hate it when things break on the trail, so I always keep up with maintenance. 7700 of those miles were put on the machine since I got it in august 2005.

The norm is change oil every 50 hrs. ATV are riden in dirt so seals, bearings and joints do have to be replaced. As for the motors I know the 600, 660 Yamaha engine for example, come from Dual Purpose XT600 and XTZ 660 Motorcycles and they get over 30,000 miles easily.
We have a 97 SP500 with 7000 miles, changed tire, brake pads, ujoints battery, nothing uncommon like trannies or cams and things like that.*crosses fingers*
