Default 2000 450 ES Foreman Oil Light

I am new to the forum.

I have a 2000 Honda 450 ES Foreman. I recently changed to synthetic oil and for no reason, the oil light started coming on. Plenty of oil, and it comes on and off at various times. Sometimes when I start it up, the light comes on. Sometimes I can drive it all day and the light won't come on. Sometimes it comes on when I start it and stays on the whole time.

The fan still kicks on an off when the engine is hot so that is working. I replaced the oil sender unit ($45) and it still happens. Took it to a Honda dealer who kept it for 3 weeks and could not make it come on. Got it back and now it acts up again. I checked all the connections to make sure the sending unit has good connections and it is all fine.

It runs fine, has great compression and other than that bothersome red light, it works great.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Could be a faulty temperature sensor, but it could very well be overheating. Check your oil cooler, if its plugged with mud you need to wash it from the back with a pressure washer. I clean mine regularly.

Yes, it is my oil temp light on the Speedometer next to the neutral light. Oil cooler is clean, fan kicks on and off regularly when it heats up like before, its just that the stupid light flickers and turns on and off for no apparent reason. Like I said, I changed the sensor and it did not do anything to the annoying light.

In that case you have a broken wire, a chafed wire or a problem in the circuit board in the display.

What is out on your unit is the fan control module
Not only does it control the fan, it controls the oil temp light on the gauge panel
When the fan controler goes bad, the light will go on and off as it pleases
I see this a lot on the 450's

Thanks Gimpster. Where is the fan control module located? What do the cost? Are they hard to change? I am pretty good with a wrench. Finally, I have someone who has given me guidance with regard to this. I appreciate the help.

Thank you in advance for your answers.
