Okay.... I Want To Buy A Polaris Sportsman....
First of all my history:
My entire family has quads and enjoy riding, but they are young. I wan't them to grow up with this sport ! Myself, I have an 02' Honda Foreman 450S that I honestly love, but the solid axel just beats me up when I ride (wrecked discs ) . I will probably keep this just to plow snow, it's a workhorse !
Now my hopefull future:
I have been reading and the word is out that the Popo Sportsman has the best Cadi-like ride available, this is good news for me !
I want to get into a used 500/700 EFI Sportsman. I would like to buy one with > 1K miles in great condition, they are out there.
Now my question:
In the 500/700 EFI Sportsman bikes, which model years ( 0?-07 ) can I look for withought giving up any "new" technology or features ? Realistically I put about about 3-400 miles on a year but hope to improve on that as the kids get older ( I can't wait ) !
Soooo.... what years are more/less desireable in my quest ??
I am open to all suggestions and input !
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Well, IMHO what is your price range? That will
govern you on what year and what technologies.
When I went looking at used Polaris there wasn't much
price difference from new when you talk just a few
years. Now is a great time to buy, my dealer had wholesale
prices, I could of bought a new 06' 700 last year for $6k.
I am glad I held out though, cuz I really wanted a 800.
With the 08's you get the EBS and ADC technologies
built into the quads as a standard (400 thru 800's)
I'm rambling, but if you stick with the 07/08 years
from all my reading they are built better addressing
heat issues and such. Others jump in...

I know how you feel , had a honda foreman 400, just got the 08 sportman 500efi this weekend put on about 100miles and able to get off and walk to the house. Fell off a stagging in 98 bad back also and full of artritis, but this is the bike for me lots of power and great ride gonna be able to go with the gang and after a day riding not feel like a train wreck. Good luck cant help you with years to choose or tech dont know much about them.

Aahhyes, the Sportsman is definetly the way to go for someone with a sore back. L4 here. (Note: don't help anyone move who doesn't have rock salt in February in New England) I have the Sportsman X2 which is a little stiffer than the regular Sportsman due to being able to haul 2 people. It still offers a ride that my back can take pretty well. It is like driving a couch within reason. If you want fuel injection you can go with a 2005 or newer 500. Just make sure it says EFI somewhere. Polaris also make the 500 in a carb. version for people not wanting the EFI. The ADC (active decent control) was not standard until this year if my thinking is right. EBS is standard on all previous Sportsmans of the last 6-7 years. It is rear wheel only. The 2005 and up Sportsman also have a great front rack with a ton of storage.
