automatic transmission is not shifting
First of, just got my first ATV today, 2007 polaris 700. I went riding this afternoon and it felt like I was in first gear the entire time. I had it in high but felt like ther e was no shifting. Just doesn't sound right. Has anyone else had this happen? If so what could be causing it. Thanks for the help.

if you have ever diven a snowmobile its the same thing style as that. does it take off good and continue to gain speed at a steady pace? if the clutches werent working correctly, the engine would just rev up quickly and not gain much speed. hope this explains it a little.

Place the Speedo/electronic display in the RPM mode and see where it idles, should be around 1,200 RPM. With the transmission in H, apply very gradual throttle as you watch the RPM display, the ATV should start moving at about 1,500 RPM. With the application of more throttle, RPM should rise into the 2,000 range and then go toward 3,000 and higher as the speedometer increases at the same time. I'm guessing that your 700 should cruise 25 mph at about 3,500 rpm. If my figures are fairly close, then everything with your 700 is just fine. If you experience something WAYYY different than this, something could be wrong.

You will not feel any shifting because it doesnt change gears. It is normal. The clutches whitch are just pullys that squeeze against the belt change at different r.p.m.'s. The faster you go the more the frount one squeezs and the rear one spreads apart to change the ratio kinda like changing gears on a ten speed bicycle. This all happens and you will not feel a thing. Ride it and dont worry about it.
