Default Removing the baffle from my 06 400EX

Ok, I just removed the baffle from my 400EX. I know it will make it louder. But some people have told me that it will increase its power, and others have said that it will decrease its power. Either way, I am getting a slip-on muffler soon so it doesn't really matter. But I would like to know what would happen if I left it like that for a while.

More than likely it will decrease your power. You are probably not jetted for a less restricitive exhaust. Straight from the factory you probably are jetted a little on the rich side (runs cooler and less chance for a melt down - safety zone for the factory warranty claims).
Probably not too much will happen if you take it easy but I would definately check my sparkplug and if it look too light or gets white expect a melt down or you can choke it a little to make it more rich. If it stays dark then you are ok. You gain nothing by removing the baffle without rejetting.

Honda stock pipes are probally the least restrictive of all stock machines. Putting an aftermarket slip on will give you no real noticable power gains. leave the baffle out get rid of the airbox lid and rejet. my $.02

Take the screws out on your muffler and pull it out.

I am unsure if you can remove the baffle. I believe everyone is talking about the spark arrestor, When i say take the baffle out I mean take out spark arrestor and use a piece of pipe or something and beat out the hole in the baffle inside

hey the parts book says there is one screw the holds the spark arrester in the muffler but to take out the bafflei think you would have to cut the end of the pipe off to take the baffle out and weld the pipe back up but then there is no restriction and it will run like s$#t my friend did that to his z400 and bad deal there...

whats is the obbsesstion with loud atv's everybody has???..a buddy owns a bike shop & ive seen dozens of atv's.dirtbikes & street bikes on the dyno machine.without baffles & they loose from (1/2 to 5hp),they run hotter & many faul up sparkplugs, aside from not running right some were along the power band..ive seen all sorts of bikes @ his shop, were the guy spends $2000. or more on a new racepipe, jetting, airfilter, ignition system & the gains on the dyno machine is any were from 1 to 5hp.is it really worth spending $2000. for 5hp more?.i keep all my bikes stock, realiable & ride all year around.
