Hi folks,

One of my ATV's is almost 2.5 yrs old (600 miles/125 hrs) and the book says to change the anti-freeze every two years. So I have a couple of questions...
1) Do most of you out there change it every 2 years?
2) For those who have changed it have you had any problems with priming the water pump, not getting it all old fluid out of the engine or rad., etc.
3) Do you have any advice you can give me?

I really don't know the "correct" answer and I see that a couple of folks have already read this thread and not replied, but it won't hurt it. The manual (in all of it's infinite wisdom) says 2 years. It won't hurt it, if anything it will only help. It may not be entirely necessary, but I'm a maintaining SOB, and If it says 2 years, I usually go 1.5 years, if you know what I mean. I'm sure one of the tech-pros will chime in eventually with a better answer.

 

Last year we purchased my 2004 SP700 used and the first thing we did was take it to the local Polaris dealer for what they call a "full service". The machine had about 1000 miles and 100 hours on it, and I wanted them to go through it with a fine toothed comb, checking everything, so I would know that I was starting from near-new condition.

I told them to replace all the fluids since I didn't know what the original owner had done. They agreed on everything but the antifreeze, and said at 1000 miles it just wasn't necessary. Even if the original owner had never changed it, 1000 miles was simply unnecessary. They said "We'll be happy to take your money, but it's literally throwing the money away."

So I just topped it off. YMMV.

 

alot people do it every 1,000 miles. i personally dont do it as long as its not testing above -30 f and it keeps its nice color. it only holds about 2 1/2 qts i beleave and would put good quality anti. back in. it calls for 60/40 but some do use a 50/50 mix.

 

i changed mine after 4 years and i run the antifreeze called ice lowered the operating temp by 20 degrees and i thing it runs alot better so i did it in all my quads all polaris but my 2 sons they are air cooled expensive but i like it

 

Yea, when I had to change out my damaged RAD several months ago, I
bought the Polaris brand, pre-mixed. I read all the labels etc. and talked
with my dealer JUST TO MAKE SURE, that I didn't need to mix it. Everything
has been great since. Ohh not related but connected (LOL), be careful of
the air bubbles thing, when filling, TIPS Stendori et al, gave me. Those who
know, can chime in..
