yes that all makes sense but when i say its loose i mean its loose enough to come off the sprocket. maybe i just need a new chain.

Have you gotten the carrier to move yet?

The carrier is what you are hitting with the hammer and punch. You should have at this point loosened the two bolts that hold your trailer hitch on also.

ok yes the 2 bolts are loosened but im hitting nothing with a hammer , from my understanding im supposed to insert a pin punch and then roll forward.

That's correct, don't hit anything with a hammer.

Like I stated earlier, keep trying, once you get those eccentric bolts loosened and the punch inserted you may need to give it a sharp/hard push to get the "hub" to spin inside the "eccentric clamp". That was my problem when I tried the first few times, I wasn't breaking the "hub" loose from the clamps around it. You'll notice when the hub spins, it's like a lightbulb going off...ahh now the chain is tighter. It was bear for me as well, insert the punch and rock the bike back and forth pretty hard, it'll break loose. There's quite a bit of play to adjust the chain so I don't think you need a new chain, just have to get the hub to break loose from the eccentric "clamp". Then it should go.

well i know you said dont use a hammer but my motto has always been if all else fails then use a hammer... or a "BFH" as some would call it. anyways the hub would never break loose and turn so i did get out the hammer and i think i got the chain tight now. i know its at least tighter than it was. thanks to all for the help. im sure i'll have another question in the future lol!!
