Default watercooled vs. air cooled

I have an air cooled 250. Do yourself a favor and get either an oil or water cooled one. This air cooled heats up FAST! I am looking into ways to cool it better. becuase if you ride it rough it will heat up and over heat fast. My friend Drifter has the same 250, and we're both having heat issues.

Granted, we're ROUGH on ours, donuts, heavy mud, rough trails.

Physically they are tough, but the motor gets hot and only has the wind and that dinky little fan to cool it. I've already lost a set of clutches due to overheating, and Drifter actually couldn't get his started for awhile b/c the fuel was vaporizing before entering the combustion chamber {apparently}.

Raceway has a nice 250 that is oil cooled. If or when I blow my engine, I'm either buying the jetmoto engine {almost exact same bike, different motor and trinkets} or some other oil or water cooled engine.

Welcome to the forum dccarr! Jetmoto went with a oil cooled engine over the air cooled engine mainly due to reliability concerns. From what i have heard the oil cooler equiped engine runs 50 - 70 degrees cooler than the air cooled engine.

I would go with an oil cooled. I have heard of some problems with the plastic water pump stripping out.

50-70 degrees cooler, get real, that would mean the air cooled engine would run around 110-120 degrees. not going to happen.

I would love 50-70 degress. It means my bike would run about 200-210. Right about where it should be. I routinely run 280 after some vigorous riding.

wow 280, now thats hot, my cn250 buggy ran around 200, hill climbs with 2 people may get up to 220, but 90% of the time right around 200.

I am real. Those temps are from dyno runs. The numbers are for the 250 engine. If I remember right the air cooled engine ran near 300 degrees.

What numbers did you get when you checked out those same engines?

Or were you testing Sunl engines and they didnt run long enough to test?

if you really think an air cooled engine ( even with a oil cooler) has more reliability than an water cooled engine then you better go back to school and learn engine basics. if you don't know why water cooled engines are better and more reliiable just let me know i can explain it to you. as far as jetmoto vs sunl, get real both are chinese POS. i notice theirs as much problems with the jet moto as their is with sunl's , just read raceway threads.
