Default Adjusting valves on 88 Moto4 225

Just wondered if anybody had the specs for valve clearance and what is the best way to gain acces to the adjustments. I have a ticking noise and I'm just trying to figure it out, is there anything else I should be looking at???

Valve clearances are: Intake - 0.05 - 0.09mm ( 0.002 - 0.004in. ) Exhaust - 0.11 - 0.15mm ( 0.0043 - 0.006 in. ) I used to have one years ago and just so happened to still have the service manual. Id start checking for the noise at the valves.

I would also check cam chain. On that old a unit you could be out of tension and slapping engine block.

Thanx for the info, I've done the valve adjustment and the tick noise is gone but I still have some noise from the chain area. Can I do a chain without removing the motor?????

Yes you can. The cam gear and adjuster, engine side cover and flywheel wil have to be removed. Flywheel takes a special puller but other than that it's not a hard job to do. Did you notice any marks where chain was flopping against block? If you replace the chain, I would put on new cam gear also. Good luck, TORK.

I have some grooving in the head and the chain is showing some wear, I guess I'll take her apart. Is there any aftermarket tensionors available? I can't seem to find any online but used ones on e-bay, Yamaha wants $80 (can) for the tensionor.
