Default HAWKEYE CV BOOT REPLACEMENT ( 2nd Try)

I am replacing the left rear inner cv boot. I have axle out
of machine. HOW TO SEPERATE AXLE OFF HUB
could be a secret. OR MAYBE it isnt meant to come off.
There was a C ring on the outside of shaft. It appeared to
either do nothing or act as a snapin for insertion of the
axle into the gearbox. The STAR inside of the joint does
not have any RECESSED areas and there is NO snap
ring visible. HOWEVER, when the axle is jilted u can
feel its got one on there, least it feels as such.

thats what i said about the outside clip its only to hold the shaft in the rear end. did you clean all off the grease off the cv so you can look at it real good. all the ones ive seen have a c clip that holds it on the shaft.

NO clip in there. I looked at the picture u have of sportsman and
I see the recess. THis has NO recess at all. Ive called a bizilion
dealers and no one has done one yet. I ordered the service manul
and its backordered from polaris.
Another dealer said to take of inner boot to get to the outer one.
WRONG. I did it and its the same. Must be a secret panel, or maybe
its controlled via a remote control???

Once you get it apart and replace your boot, do you need to put the shaft and cv joint back together on the same spline so as not to be out of time like what would happen with a u joint if there was a slip joint and you were off a spline or two ?

Secure the axle shaft in a vice with the side you want to take apart facing downward. Grab the end of the shaft, where it goes into the rearend housing, and with a dead blow soft fave hammer, hit the joint where the joint meets the axle. Hit it straight down a few times and it will come right off. It has the same clip on the end of the axle itself as the part that goes into the housing. Make sure you hold onto the part coming off so it doesn't hit the floor.

I hope this is clear enough; if not let me know and I'll take a pic. and send it.

Think I got it. I was pounding on the outside part before. Gettin to the inside will require
using some blunt tool so that contact is made directly to the area adjacent to the
axle... Correct?

OK I GOT IT , THANKs much to all that helped
Here is the secret for anyone else trudging down this path. THE INNER HUB DOES
NOT COME OFF. DO NOT TRY TO TAKE IT OFF. You have to take off the outer hub
to replace the new inner one. IT has a snap pop crackel ring in there just like it does
at the end of the shaft near the gear box.
Remove axle from gearbox, it pops out.
As was described in this thread, you have to put axle in vise and pound off the
hub. AGAIN, only outer one comes off and its not too hard to get out. Its
that snap pop and crackel thing again.
The issue putting it back together is the cvboot clamps. Polaris has some wierd
clamps. I spect you need their tool to get them back on. I messed one up.
and need to find a rplacement.
I know this is another point of contention.
