Default Best Mods for '06 Rancher 350 ES 4x4

I just got a '06 Rancher 350 ES 4x4 about 3 weeks ago. I love it!!! But it doesn't have as much power as I hoped it would. I am looking to get the best possible mods for it...any recomendations??? I ride on long dusty trails and love to hit Mud pits so I am not sure if I would be able to do a Stage 2 jet kit...you have to open up the air box for that right? Would I lose any bottom end by a jet kit? Also, what's the best exhaust? Not too loud but lots of power and able to hang in the mud? K&N filter??? Any advice is greatly appreciated

the first thing you should get is a Warn 424. It lets you put it in 2wd for some extra fun, and it handles way better on trails. It adds a sportier feel to the machine.

After that, go with either a UNI or a K&N with an outerwears prefilter, a jet kit (I dont think anybody makes a stage 2 jet kit for the rancher, the one from dynojet is stage 1 and 2 supposedly) and an exhaust. If you like mudding, you could go with an fmf powerline, they are pretty much maintenance free and have no packing to replace. Or you could go with an HMF Utility with quiet core. Pretty much any aftermarket exhaust is going to be more free-flowing than the stock one, but aftermarket will be louder, how loud you want is up to you, just be respectful where you ride.

Putting the jet kit and exhaust/filter combo on will give you a noticable increase in power. I wouldnt recommend drilling holes in your airbox, if you go mudding you'll get water in it. If you decide to go K&N, make sure you keep an eye on your filter and make sure it's oiled, I've heard some horror stories of K&N filters letting dirt through more so than a foam filter, but I'm not sure if I believe it.

Which ever exhuast and filter you get, send an e-mail to dynojet on which machine and parts you'll be using, they will best be able to tell you which jets to put in to be close on your fuel mixtures.

Warn 424!

I did vented airbox lid (not a good idea if you are constantly in deep water), UNI air filter, MegaMax II muffler.

Clipped carb spring.
Take off the seat to get to the carb. Take the screws out of the top of the carb. Pull top off. Remove long spring. Clip off about 11 coils from the spring. Put the longer piece back in and reassemble. Then crank it up and hang on! The best part is its free and takes only minutes to do!

Don't neglect handling! A set of ITP Holeshot ATR's on light ITP rims, turned my Rancher into a whole different (better)machine

I would not cut springs or rejet. I decided agaisnt the warn 424 becuase If I ever decided to climb a hill and forgot to put it back In 4wd I would be in serious trouble. I just left that the way it came.

Best mod I can think of though is a bag and gun rack.

Recommend the WARN 424. You can activate it on the fly so long as your rear wheels are not spinning.

Cutting the spring just allows the carb to open faster for faster throttle response. Much easier to wheelie. It does not actually add horse power. It just feels stronger. It will not flood your carb. And if you dont like it, its just a few bucks for a new spring to put it back like it was.
